US Report on Khashoggi Death Expected to Single Out Saudi Crown Prince, Sources Say

WASHINGTON - A declassified version of a U.S. intelligence report expected to be released Thursday finds that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, four U.S. officials familiar with the matter said. The officials said the report, for which the CIA was the main contributor, assessed that the crown prince approved and likely ordered the murder of Khashoggi, whose Washington Post column had criticized the crown prince’s policies. President Joe Biden, a Democrat who succeeded the Republican Donald Trump five weeks ago, told reporters Wednesday he had read the report and expected to speak soon by phone with Saudi Arabian King Salman, 85, father of the crown prince, the country's 35-year-old de facto ruler. Turkish Video Allegedly Shows Saudi Agent Posing as Khashoggi

New surveillance video from Istanbul appears to show a Saudi agent wearing journalist Jamal Khashoggi's clothing and leaving Riyadh's consulate on October 2, presumably in an attempt to cover up his killing by showing he had left the diplomatic outpost alive. The Washington Post that were critical of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Riyadh's involvement in the conflict in Yemen. It is not known what happened to Khashoggi's remains, although Turkish officials say he was tortured, decapitated and then dismembered. One Saudi official told ABC News Khashoggi's body was given to a "local cooperator" in Istanbul for disposal, but Saudi officials have said they do not know what happened to his remains. Turkey’s President Promises to Reveal ‘Naked Truth’ About Khashoggi Killing

WASHINGTON - Saudi Arabia says Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke Monday by telephone with the son of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi to express condolences for the killing. Khashoggi died after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is vowing to reveal details about the case in a Tuesday speech to his parliament. He told an Istanbul rally Sunday, "We are looking for justice here and this will be revealed in all its naked truth, not through some ordinary steps." Erdogan spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump by telephone Sunday. Turkey's state-run news agency said both leaders agree the Khashoggi case needs to be "cleared up with all aspects." Turkey Questions Employees of Saudi Consulate on Khashoggi

ANKARA - Turkish prosecutors investigating the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi questioned Turkish employees of the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Friday, widening the hunt for clues in a case straining Riyadh's alliance with Western powers. Khashoggi went missing more than two weeks ago after entering the consulate to obtain documents in relation to a forthcoming marriage. Turkish officials believe he was killed in the building on October 2, but Riyadh has denied the allegations. In an expanding quest for evidence, police searched a forest on Istanbul's outskirts and a city near the Sea of Marmara for Khashoggi's remains, two senior Turkish officials told Reuters, after tracking the routes of cars that left the Saudi consulate and the consul's residence on the day he vanished.
