The list includes 750 referees and assistant referees. All are required to pass several tests before FIFA selects the final 56 referees and 100 assistants. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many global football tournaments were either postponed or canceled last year, meaning many refs on the list have not seen the pitch during the past nine months. However, in Vietnam, women's football tournaments still took place as normal, from the U14 contest to the national championship, thanks to the country's superb efforts in containing Covid-19. That means Trang and Trinh were refereeing regularly in 2020, giving them an advantage in the competition for a spot at Women’s World Cup 2023. The shortlist, known as the “Road to Australia/New Zealand” project, will be down to the final number of 56 referees and 100 assistant referees. FIFA noted that the COVID-19 pandemic hinders various candidates’ performance as they have not officiated any matches in the past nine months. In Vietnam, however, women’s football tournaments were successfully held in 2020 as the country has kept the pandemic under control. Tiger Woods faces hard recovery from serious injuries sustained in car crash
Aerial footage captures the area where Tiger Woods crashed his car down a steep embankment in Los Angeles. In a career filled with remarkable comebacks, Tiger Woods faces his toughest recovery of all. Woods was driving through a sweeping, downhill stretch of road through coastal suburbs of Los Angeles when his SUV struck a sign, crossed over a raised median and two oncoming lanes before it toppled down an embankment, coming to a halt on its side. The airbags deployed. A sheriff’s deputy poked his head through a hole in the windscreen to see Woods, still wearing his seatbelt, sitting in the driver’s seat. The crash caused “significant” injuries all down his right leg that featured rods, pins and screws during what was described as a “long surgical procedure” at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. It could come at the world championships — which start Thursday ( TV schedule here ) — where she has a chance to become the first American to win an individual gold medal. It will probably happen by the end of the World Cup season later in March. Diggins holds a 342-point lead in the standings for the World Cup overall title, awarded based on results across all events for the entire season. World championships results don’t count toward the World Cup overall. There are a handful of World Cup races left after the world championships. The scale is 100 points for a victory, and descending from there. Do the math with Diggins’ lead, and you get an idea of her chances to become the second American ever to … [Read more...] about Jessie Diggins skis into world championships on historic roll, wearing powerful message
