Historic Delay: Jen Psaki Predicts Joe Biden Press Conference ‘Before the End of the Month’

· March 5, 2021 ·

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Friday conceded President Joe Biden would have a press conference in “coming weeks” and “before the end of the month.” A recent CNN analysis of the past 100 years shows the 15 most recent presidents have all held a formal solo press conference within 33 days of taking office. This is President Biden’s 44th day in office. Psaki blamed Biden’s focus on the coronavirus pandemic for the delay, arguing that the president’s time, energy, and focus was on solving the crisis. “I think the American people would certainly understand if his focus and his energy and his attention has been on ensuring we secure enough vaccines to vaccinate all Americas,” she said. Since taking office, however, President Biden has spent three weekends away from the White House, including two at his home in Deleware and one at the presidential retreat at Camp David. Biden’s refusal to host a press conference fits a pattern of behavior exhibited by his staff … [Read more...] about Historic Delay: Jen Psaki Predicts Joe Biden Press Conference ‘Before the End of the Month’

Joe Biden Is First President in 40 Years to Not Hold Formal Question-Answer Session by This Point in Term

· March 6, 2021 ·

President Joe Biden is the first executive in 40 years to come to this point in his term without holding a formal question and answer session, such as a news conference or Oval Office address. “It reflects a White House media strategy meant both to reserve major media set-pieces for the celebration of a legislative victory and to limit unforced errors from a historically gaffe-prone politician,” the Associated Press (AP) reported Saturday. The president chooses to take questions nearly as often as many of his recent predecessors, but usually takes one or two informal inquiries in a hurried setting toward the end of events, the article continued: In a sharp contrast with the previous administration, the White House is exerting extreme message discipline, empowering staff to speak but doing so with caution. Recalling both Biden’s largely leak-free campaign and the buttoned-up Obama administration, the new White House team has carefully managed the president’s appearances, … [Read more...] about Joe Biden Is First President in 40 Years to Not Hold Formal Question-Answer Session by This Point in Term

Vaccines? Cash for Americans? Joe Biden looks like he’s keeping his promises

· March 4, 2021 ·

WASHINGTON—There’s a lot going on this week here in D.C. President Joe Biden saw his pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget withdraw when the Senate balked at approving her. The House of Representatives passed potentially landmark voting rights and racial justice policing legislation late Wednesday before breaking for the week because of another potential violent threat from Trump supporters on Thursday. This came after hearings through the week in which senior police and military officials testified about such threats in the context of examining the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. There’s more still (the increasing disgrace of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the subpoena of Donald Trump’s tax records), but this has also, and perhaps most significantly, been the week Biden has tried to start delivering on the central promise of his campaign: to tackle coronavirus as both a public health and economic threat. On the first front, Biden moved the timeline for neutralizing the … [Read more...] about Vaccines? Cash for Americans? Joe Biden looks like he’s keeping his promises

Joe Biden lets the Saudis get away with murder — for now

· March 5, 2021 ·

The history of the Middle East dates back to ancient times so it requires taking the long view. But there is every reason to expect that the spirit of the murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi will live on far longer than those who have tried to smother it — including Saudi Arabia’s chief killer, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Ten years ago last month, much of the Arab world exploded in jubilation over the forced resignation of Egypt’s despised leader Hosni Mubarak. It was the climax of the Arab Spring, which saw the region in revolt against dictatorial regimes — often supported by the U.S. and other western countries — that imposed poverty and corruption on their people for decades. When Mubarak was ousted, U.S. president Barack Obama praised the courage of the pro-democracy protesters: “In Egypt, it was the moral force of non-violence that bent the arc of history towards justice once more.” That, of course, was premature. The Arab Spring collapsed, dictatorships … [Read more...] about Joe Biden lets the Saudis get away with murder — for now

Kayleigh McEnany Says Jen Psaki ‘Does Not Have Faith’ in Joe Biden Taking Press Questions

· March 6, 2021 ·

President Joe Biden 's lack of press conferences has raised questions about the administration's communications strategy in recent days as some have criticized the Democrat for not being more available to journalists' questions. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has defended the president's approach, while former Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who served under Donald Trump, made critical remarks and compared Biden unfavorably to his predecessor. McEnany also suggested that Psaki "does not have faith" in Biden to perform well under questioning. Biden has been president for more than 40 days but has not yet held a solo press conference. Both former President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama had both done so by this point in their presidency. Biden has often taken reporters' questions during or after events, but has not yet held any formal press conferences. "I think his staff does not have faith that he can stand at the podium and have a press … [Read more...] about Kayleigh McEnany Says Jen Psaki ‘Does Not Have Faith’ in Joe Biden Taking Press Questions
