Oath Keepers Founder Stood Outside While Members Committed Mayhem in US Capitol

· March 7, 2021 ·

WASHINGTON - On Jan. 4, Stewart Rhodes, the founder of Oath Keepers, an anti-government group, went online to summon his army of followers into action. In an urgent plea on the Oath Keepers website, Rhodes wrote that it is “CRITICAL” that “all patriots” travel to Washington on a “security mission” in support of then-President Donald Trump’s “fight to defeat the enemies foreign and domestic.” “We Oath Keepers are both honor-bound and eager to be there in strength to do our part,” Rhodes implored. This was not the first time Rhodes, a former Army paratrooper and Yale-educated lawyer, had rallied his troops around the former president. At Rhodes’ direction, members of the Oath Keepers, the militia he founded in 2009, had attended numerous Trump events over the years. But coming after months of increasing vitriol by Rhodes and others about an imaginary leftist plot against Trump that had to be stopped at all costs, the consequences of his call to action proved deadly. Five … [Read more...] about Oath Keepers Founder Stood Outside While Members Committed Mayhem in US Capitol

Dozens Rally Before Former Officer’s Trial in George Floyd’s Death Begins

· March 6, 2021 ·

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA - Dozens of people gathered in front of the Minnesota governor's mansion on Saturday to demand accountability for police officers, days before a former Minneapolis officer is scheduled to go on trial in the death of George Floyd. Many of the roughly 150 people who demonstrated in Minnesota were family members of others who died during police encounters. Similar protests were being organized in cities around the country in advance of the trial of Derek Chauvin. Floyd, a Black man, died May 25 after Chauvin, who is white, pressed his knee against Floyd's neck while Floyd was held face-down on the ground in handcuffs, saying he couldn't breathe. Body-camera video time stamps provided by prosecutors show Chauvin held his position for about nine minutes, even after Floyd stopped moving. Floyd was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter. Jury selection in his trial begins Monday. Saturday's protest in … [Read more...] about Dozens Rally Before Former Officer’s Trial in George Floyd’s Death Begins

TOM’S admits Fenestraz could miss Super GT opener

· March 7, 2021 ·

Fenestraz has been stuck in Dubai for several weeks and unable to re-enter Japan owing to travel restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic that are preventing him from obtaining a new visa. The French-Argentine driver has been forced to miss this weekend’s Okayama SUPER GT test, and will almost certainly miss both Super Formula tests scheduled for this month. TOM’S team director Jun Yamada told Motorsport.com that the Japanese government’s decision last week to extend the state of emergency declaration covering the Greater Tokyo area for a further two weeks had complicated efforts to get Fenestraz his visa. He added that it will be “on the limit” for Fenestraz to enter Japan in time to serve a 14-day quarantine before the SUPER GT opener at Okayama on April 10-11. “In the end, the state of emergency was extended until March 21,” said Yamada. “He’s already applied for his residence card, but he hasn’t been granted a visa yet. So it's a tough situation. “If … [Read more...] about TOM’S admits Fenestraz could miss Super GT opener

Marvel may have just revealed its new Phoenix on a Heroes Reborn variant cover

· March 4, 2021 ·

Marvel has revealed a slew of April variant covers which the publisher states will set the stage for its May-launching Heroes Reborn 2021 event – but the Carlos Pacheco drawn covers, which depict the status quos of prominent Avengers in the world of Heroes Reborn 2021 where the Avengers never formed, may have revealed something of a much bigger spoiler for a current Marvel story. Potential spoilers ahead for Avengers 'Enter the Phoenix' One of the variants – the cover for Daredevil #29 – shows Echo confined in a straight jacket in what appears to be an asylum. As with all the variants, the image is captioned with a title offering some insight into the character's Heroes Reborn 2021 fate, in this case "The Lost Prisoner." Interestingly enough, Marvel's previous solicitation for May 19's Heroes Reborn #3 states that "the Phoenix" is the "newest inmate" at the infamous Ravencroft Asylum. And what's more, the cover of Avengers #44, the finale of 'Enter the Phoenix,' which … [Read more...] about Marvel may have just revealed its new Phoenix on a Heroes Reborn variant cover
