Falling iPhone sales have apparently claimed their first victim. According to a report by CNBC and confirmed by Apple, some 200 members of Apple’s Project Titan autonomous car project have been removed from the group, as Apple re-evaluates the role artificial intelligence and machine learning plays in its products. This is hardly the first time Apple’s car division has reportedly fallen on hard times . Rumored for years as the next big thing to come out of Cupertino, the Bob Mansfield-headed Project Titan team has grown and shrunk as Apple’s ambitions have reportedly shifted from building its own car to designing an autonomous driving system for third-party vehicles. Bosch said on Monday it would open an automotive chip factory in Dresden in June to build on its leadership in sensor chips that will boost the electric car industry. The 1 billion euro ($1.2 billion) plant will produce sensor chips to be installed in electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The chips help increase the range of electric vehicles. Bosch began testing the fully automated production of prototype chips, a step towards starting full-scale production at the end of the year, it said. The plant will not produce the kind of semiconductor chips now in short supply, causing disruptions to the global car industry. The factory, partly financed by the Free State of Saxony and federal government in Berlin, will employ 700 people. Plans for the plant were announced in 2017. Accordingly, petrol continues to be priced at Rs 91.17 a litre and diesel Rs 81.47 a litre in the national capital on Monday. Across the country as well the petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged. This is the ninth consecutive day when pump prices of auto fuels have remained unchanged. After a spike in global oil prices seen over the last two weeks with crude prices jumping close to $ 67 a barrel, prices had fallen to around $ 63 a barrel but it has risen again to cross $70 a barrel mark now after OPEC + decision to continue with crude production cut in April. In the 14 increases since then, prices have gone up by Rs 4.22 per litre for petrol while diesel rate has risen by Rs 4.34 a litre in Delhi.
