Vietnam and Thailand top Asia Pacific destinations for Russians

· June 22, 2019 ·

Vietnam is becoming one of the top destinations in the Asia Pacific region for Russian visitors, with the favourite Thailand still a close second, according to global travel analysis firm ForwardKeys. The ForwardKeys survey reports that Vietnam saw the highest increase in Russian market seat capacity at 153%, followed by Thailand and the Maldives, which saw a growth of 125% and 58%, respectively. The Republic of Korea and India also saw seat capacity rising by more than 30%. Vietnam is emerging as a favourite destination for Russian holiday-goers in recent years and is expected to surpass its neighbour Thailand, a favoured Russian haunt for a long time. Market observers say the launch of direct air connections from multiple secondary and tertiary cities in Russia to Vietnam’s popular beach towns have propped up the Russian tourism boom. The central province of Khanh Hoa, home to the famous beach town of Nha Trang City, has been much loved by Russian tourists, accounting for one … [Read more...] about Vietnam and Thailand top Asia Pacific destinations for Russians

Vietnam plans to keep borders closed and not rely on vaccine strategy

· November 7, 2020 ·

The Vietnamese Covid-19 task force says it plans to maintain its strategy of containing the coronavirus rather than “rush into a vaccine”, even if a successful vaccine becomes available, that could pose a financial burden the country. Vietnam, despite a month-long surge around Da Nang, has been able to largely contain the local outbreak. Yesterday the world’s Covid numbers reported the continuing surge in the US and parts of Europe and the UK. Vietnam has reported a total of 1,212 Covid cases and 25 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Through months of aggressive mass testing, centralised and controlled quarantines and early border closures, Vietnam has now gone over 2 months without a community transmission of Covid-19. Like Thailand, the vast majority of recent cases have been imported, mostly with repatriated Vietnamese citizens. Vietnam and Thailand have both been widely praised for their decisive response to quelling outbreaks, despite earlier predictions that the … [Read more...] about Vietnam plans to keep borders closed and not rely on vaccine strategy

WildAid launches ad campaign in Thailand to raise awareness about illegal wildlife trade

· March 3, 2021 ·

The following is a press release submitted by WildAid, a non-profit organisation pushing to end illegal wildlife trade. In honor of World Wildlife Day, WildAid is launching a series of advertisements highlighting the plight of endangered species, a result of poaching to meet consumer demand for wildlife products such as elephant ivory, rhino horns, shark fin, tiger parts and helmeted hornbill casques. The advertisements released today feature the five species and ask the public to react against wildlife trade by refusing wildlife products and reporting illegal wildlife crime to authorities. Like many markets, trade in wildlife and wildlife products is shifting online. TRAFFIC’s monitoring of 31 websites and e-commerce platforms in China between 2012 and 2016 found ivory was the most-advertised wildlife product (60%), while rhino horns and associated products were the second most-traded products (20%). In the last few years, social media has also played a role in fostering … [Read more...] about WildAid launches ad campaign in Thailand to raise awareness about illegal wildlife trade
