No promises have been made by Mercedes, says Russell

· March 6, 2021 ·

LONDON: Britain's George Russell played down talk of a future move from Williams to Mercedes on Friday by saying he was focused on the present and the Formula One champions had not promised him anything. The 23-year-old is managed by Mercedes, who have seven times world champion Lewis Hamilton and Finland's Valtteri Bottas on one-year deals, and out of contract at Williams at the end of the season. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said at his team's launch that the future was "very bright" for the 2018 Formula Two champion. "They have told me I am a part of their future, whenever that may be, when they believe the time is right," Russell told reporters on Friday after Mercedes-powered Williams unveiled their car's new livery. "Things change very quickly in motorsport, especially in Formula One, so I'm not even thinking about it to be honest," he added. "I obviously had a taste of life at the front of the grid last year but I’m just focused on the here and now, focusing on … [Read more...] about No promises have been made by Mercedes, says Russell

Hulkenberg could take twin Aston Martin/Mercedes reserve role

· March 5, 2021 ·

The German impressed as a stand-in at Racing Point for both Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll last year when they were struck down by coronavirus. Although the outings did not lead to any full-time race seat for this season, his ability to quickly get up to speed and his current knowledge of F1 machinery looks set to earn him a chance to be the man slotted again if anything happens at the renamed Aston Martin team. Discussions are ongoing to formalise his position, but it is understood he could take an expanded role that includes Aston Martin making him available for Mercedes at selected events too. One possibility being explored is for him to be free for Mercedes if the German car manufacturer is in need of a stand-in for Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas and their regular reserves are busy elsewhere. While Mercedes announced earlier this week that Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries were its designated reserve drivers this year, their commitments in Formula E mean they … [Read more...] about Hulkenberg could take twin Aston Martin/Mercedes reserve role

Mercedes unveils car for Hamilton’s record-breaking F1 bid

· March 2, 2021 ·

BRACKLEY, England - Mercedes has unveiled the car Lewis Hamilton will drive this season while trying to win an unprecedented eighth Formula One title. The W12 car, presented Tuesday, retains the black introduced last year as part of the team’s campaign against racism and discrimination, and adds a touch of its more traditional silver. The 36-year-old Hamilton, who signed a one-year contract extension last month, is bidding to move one title clear of Michael Schumacher. Meanwhile, Mercedes will be chasing an eighth drivers’ and constructors’ double. Since joining Mercedes for the 2013 season, Hamilton has won six world titles — moving him level with Schumacher with a record seven for his career. Hamilton, who has won 74 races with Mercedes, said earning an eighth title “is the ultimate dream, but I don’t think it will be the deciding factor as to whether I stay or keep going.“ “I got into racing because I love racing and that has to be the core of what I do. If all you are … [Read more...] about Mercedes unveils car for Hamilton’s record-breaking F1 bid

Prince Philip won Queen’s affection with ‘unusual skill’ and jokes during first meeting

· March 5, 2021 ·

The world has watched The Queen and Prince Philip's relationship continue to grow stronger and stronger over the years since they were married at Westminster Abbey in November 1947. But do you know how it all began? Their romance officially began when the Queen was 17 and Philip was 22, but the pair actually met several years earlier. Aged 13, the then Princess Elizabeth joined her father King George VI, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret during a trip to Dartmouth Britannia Royal Naval College, where Philip was training. And it was by pure chance that they ended up meeting - and it was all down to a nasty outbreak of mumps and chickenpox. According to the Queen's former governess Marion Crawford, Philip was one of the few cadets who wasn't taken ill so was invited to meet them. He is said to have suggested they go down to the tennis courts, where he showed off by jumping over the nets. In her book The Little Princesses, Marion claims the Queen was particularly … [Read more...] about Prince Philip won Queen’s affection with ‘unusual skill’ and jokes during first meeting
