Duterte hints at his ‘president’ in 2022

· March 6, 2021 ·

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Friday teased Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go about a possible presidential bid in 2022. During the joint meeting of national and regional task forces to end local communist armed conflict (Elcac) in Cagayan de Oro City on Friday, Duterte called Go “president” and asked him to “stand up and see if it suits you well.” “Stand up and wave to the people. That’s too low; raise your hand higher,” said Duterte to Go in Visayan. Duterte said Go has been with him for 21 years since he started in 1988 and has never lost an election. “So how long have I been a mayor, how many terms? One, two, three, four, five, six? Seven? So that’s the story there,” Duterte added. The President hinted that Go might be his possible successor after he reiterated that he had no plans of staying in office after his term expires in 2022. Duterte said there were so many corrupt people and “no one dared to bring them down because of fear.” He said since he was no longer … [Read more...] about Duterte hints at his ‘president’ in 2022

What Is the Ex-President Thinking?

· February 27, 2021 ·

I was reading the Harry Potter series when I was struck down by the flu in late January. I had a cough, minor temperature swings, dream sweats, and I couldn’t leave my bed for anything but the toilet or the easiest meals. Gumbo soup, pre-cooked chicken in bottled vindaloo sauce, hot and sour soup; the nursing skills of my normally destructive dog; Harry Potter, and watching ballet documentaries on my phone entertained me between long naps. I got tested earlier this week. I didn’t have COVID-19 . Only the cough and sweats fit. I could taste spicy food (it helped me cough), I had no energy to stand up in the shower. It was a run-of-the-mill flu but oh, my, I was bored in that gray space of illness. The impeachment trial of Donald Trump made me human. I watched it on my phone in real-time, read everything I could, watched documentaries about Q, read Twitter like it was the Heathers planning college visits. I knew, as I imagine most of us did, what the outcome of the trial would … [Read more...] about What Is the Ex-President Thinking?

Ahmad only possible obstacle to Motsepe becoming CAF president

· March 7, 2021 ·

Kindly Share This Story: Only incumbent Ahmad Ahmad potentially stands in the way of South African billionaire and current sole candidate Patrice Motsepe becoming the eighth president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) this Friday. A verdict is expected Monday by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on an appeal by Malagasy Ahmad against a five-year ban imposed by FIFA last November over “governance issues”. The world football governing body said the 61-year-old had “breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the CAF president”. Ahmad appealed to CAS within two days of the ban being announced and was allowed to return to his CAF post in January, pending the outcome. A CAF executive committee member, speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity in order to be candid, said he believed the best Ahmad could hope for was “a lesser suspension”. “Some of the evidence against him … [Read more...] about Ahmad only possible obstacle to Motsepe becoming CAF president

President Halimah Yacob visits galleries showcasing achievements of S’porean women ahead of International Women’s Day

· March 7, 2021 ·

SINGAPORE - President Halimah Yacob visited the National Museum on Sunday (March 7) where she toured exhibitions about the significant contributions made by Singaporean women over the years, ahead of International Women's Day on Monday. "To celebrate women's achievements over the decades, the galleries look back to the period when women began to occupy more visible public roles previously dominated by men, in response to changes in society and increasing opportunities available to them," said Madam Halimah in a Facebook post. She toured two of the museum's permanent galleries - Modern Colony and Goh Seng Choo - that showcased the progress made by Singaporean women in society and watched a performance by an all-women ensemble from the Singapore Chinese Orchestra to commemorate International Women's Day. The first gallery explores how affluent Straits-born and migrant Chinese women carved out distinctive identities for themselves and navigated the challenges they faced during the … [Read more...] about President Halimah Yacob visits galleries showcasing achievements of S’porean women ahead of International Women’s Day
