Piers Morgan blasts ‘cowardly’ government for ‘not having the guts’ to stand up to Saudi Arabia

· March 2, 2021 ·

Piers Morgan took aim at the government's "cowardly" action to slash aid to Yemen - but not take sanctions against Saudi Arabia following reports on the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng appeared on Good Morning Britain today and was initially questioned on the vaccine roll-out and the missing person with the Brazil coronavirus variant. But the questioning soon turned to the UK government's decision to cut aid to war-torn Yemen by more than half, alongside the decision not to issue sanctions to Saudi after a declassified US intelligence report into Khashoggi's murder in 2018 concluded that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved an operation to "capture or kill" the journalist. Defending the government's decision, Kwarteng referred to the US response: "They haven't specifically ruled out having sanctions because they realise that the way to influence Saudi Arabia isn't simply to cut off-" "Hang on," Piers interjected. "I think that's … [Read more...] about Piers Morgan blasts ‘cowardly’ government for ‘not having the guts’ to stand up to Saudi Arabia

Joe Biden lets the Saudis get away with murder — for now

· March 5, 2021 ·

The history of the Middle East dates back to ancient times so it requires taking the long view. But there is every reason to expect that the spirit of the murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi will live on far longer than those who have tried to smother it — including Saudi Arabia’s chief killer, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Ten years ago last month, much of the Arab world exploded in jubilation over the forced resignation of Egypt’s despised leader Hosni Mubarak. It was the climax of the Arab Spring, which saw the region in revolt against dictatorial regimes — often supported by the U.S. and other western countries — that imposed poverty and corruption on their people for decades. When Mubarak was ousted, U.S. president Barack Obama praised the courage of the pro-democracy protesters: “In Egypt, it was the moral force of non-violence that bent the arc of history towards justice once more.” That, of course, was premature. The Arab Spring collapsed, dictatorships … [Read more...] about Joe Biden lets the Saudis get away with murder — for now

Legal process has to be followed, can’t shortcut that: UK on Mallya extradition

· March 5, 2021 ·

Noting the urgency and desire on the part of India to extradite people accused of corruption, the UK on Friday said a "legal process" is on in Vijay Mallya's matter and it has to be followed through as there cannot be any shortcut. In May last year, the fugitive businessman lost his appeals in the British Supreme Court against his extradition to India to face money laundering and fraud charges. Asked when can Mallya be extradited to India and if some kind of legal issue is still pending in the matter, new British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, without pointing to any particular case, said he recognises the urgency, importance and the desire to get back people who are accused of corruption to India. "Extradition is a mixture of an administrative and a judicial process, and so it goes to the courts. "The home secretary has done what needs to be done from the executive's point of view in the case of Vijay Mallya. "But it (the matter) is part of a judicial … [Read more...] about Legal process has to be followed, can’t shortcut that: UK on Mallya extradition

Critics, rumors and fear delay recovery; Sinovac helps start optimism

· March 6, 2021 ·

The mad scramble for vaccines is the incident where the reality about moralizing and hypocrisy by Western powers is clearly demonstrated along with the bias of some media and headline grabbing politicians in the Philippines, who are a major source of rumors and fear and cause of the delays in acceptance of vaccination by our countrymen. What should our countrymen know that these media and politicians hide? First of all, stop all the chatter; the people should get vaccinated. Let’s save ourselves. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently deplored that 10 high income countries have administered 75 percent of all vaccines, while over 130 countries had not received a single dose.  Duke University had studied that contracts show the European Union had more than enough to inoculate its population two times, and Canada and the United Kingdom by five times.  The United States, which had procured almost a quarter of the world’s supply at the time covering its population … [Read more...] about Critics, rumors and fear delay recovery; Sinovac helps start optimism
