Stephen Chow, Andy Lau, Sandra Ng pay respects to late Ng Man Tat
The funeral wake for beloved Hong Kong actor Ng Man Tat was held yesterday (March 7) at Hung Hom Universal Funeral and several celebrities, including Stephen Chow, turned up in person to pay their respects. Stephen, 58, and his sister appeared at the funeral hall at around 4pm and left after nine minutes. While he waved briefly at some of the media lined up outside, he did not make a statement. There were rumours in recent years that Man Tat and Stephen had a falling out and were not on good terms. The two are famous internationally as a comedy duo and acted in many movies together, but they had not collaborated since Shaolin Soccer in 2001. When Man Tat was hospitalised for cancer treatment in February, Stephen reportedly reached out to their mutual friend, actor Tenky Tin, to ask about his condition and if he could help in any way. Ng Man Tat has been cremated, ashes will be brought back to Malaysia
Hong Kong veteran actor Ng Man Tat has been cremated at 12.23pm today (March 8), according to news outlet TVB Entertainment News . There was a private service for family and friends at Hung Hom Universal Funeral this morning, after which his body was taken to Cape Collinson Crematorium with his only son carrying his memorial portrait. Man Tat's second wife, Malaysian Hou Shan Yan, was also present. According to a statement issued by his family, his ashes will be brought back to Malaysia — having lived in Johor Bahru for many years with his wife, daughter, and son — as per his wishes. Man Tat's brother told Hong Kong media : "Man Tat told me this at the hospital, that he hoped to return to Malaysia to be with his wife and children." The 70-year-old died on Feb 27 in a Hong Kong hospital after a battle with liver cancer. Banks’ bad loans surge at end-Jan
Soured loans posted by the Philippine banking system picked up to over P392 billion as of January this year, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Preliminary central bank data showed over the weekend that lenders’ gross nonperforming loans (NPL) rose to P392.25 billion at end-January, surging by 66.92 percent from P234.98 billion a year ago. NPLs are past due loans where the principal or interest is unpaid for 30 days or more after the due date. This includes the outstanding balance of loans payable in monthly installments when three or more installments are in arrears. The data also showed that banks’ total loan portfolio declined by 2.57 percent to P10.60 trillion at end-January from P10.88 trillion a year before. This translated to a gross NPL ratio of 3.70 percent, an uptick from the 3.61 percent a month earlier and from 2.16 percent a year ago.
