Inmate Says She Was Forced to Give Birth Alone in Her Jail Cell Without Any Medical Treatment: ‘This Is Not Civilized’

· August 29, 2019 ·

A female inmate alleges that she was forced to give birth alone on a bench in her cell at Denver County Jail without any medical treatment, according to reports. Diana Sanchez is now suing the city and county of Denver, Denver Health Medical Center and a further six individuals as a result of the incident, FOX31 reported . According to court documents, Sanchez told Denver Sheriff Department deputies that she was in labor at around 5 a.m. on July 31, 2018. She says her water then broke just before 10 a.m. and that she finally gave birth to a boy at 10:44 a.m. Sanchez alleges she received no medical supervision or treatment, and, furthermore, that Denver Health nurses—who are contracted to work at the prison—and jail staff were fully aware she had been in labor for hours. Staff "callously made her labor alone for hours, and ultimately give birth alone in a dirty jail cell without any medical care" the lawsuit alleges, noting that they "cruelly chose convenience over … [Read more...] about Inmate Says She Was Forced to Give Birth Alone in Her Jail Cell Without Any Medical Treatment: ‘This Is Not Civilized’

From bubble to bubble for Australia’s Wallabies

· September 21, 2020 ·

SYDNEY: More than half of the Wallabies squad had little more than a single day to decompress after the Super Rugby AU final before taking off for a Hunter Valley training camp on Monday to prepare for the test season. In this season like no other, biosecurity protocols to counter the new coronavirus mean 13 ACT Brumbies and 11 Queensland Reds players will be trading one system of social isolation for another. "At least it's a new bubble," Brumbies winger Tom Wright told reporters in Canberra before heading up to New South Wales. "We get to go in and still do what we love to do in playing and training for football. "By no means is it too tough. Exciting that we get to into a new set of four walls and a new environment with team mates and stuff." Wright, who played the full 80 minutes on Saturday as the Brumbies beat the Reds 28-23 in the Super Rugby AU final, is one of 16 uncapped players in the first Wallabies squad selected by Dave Rennie. The first matches of the … [Read more...] about From bubble to bubble for Australia’s Wallabies
