India, Pakistan review LoC situation, agree to maintain hotline contact, border flag meetings during DGMO-level talks

NEW DELHI: The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan held discussions over the established mechanism of hotline contact. According to a joint release, the two sides reviewed the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and all other sectors in a free, frank and cordial atmosphere. “In the interest of achieving mutually beneficial and sustainable peace along the borders, the two DGsMO agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns which have the propensity to disturb the peace and lead to violence,’’ the joint press statement said. Further, both sides agreed for strict observance of all agreements, understandings and cease firing along the Line of Control and all other sectors with effect from midnight of 24/25 Feb 2021. “Both sides reiterated that existing mechanisms of hotline contact and border flag meetings will be utilised to resolve any unforeseen situation or misunderstanding,’’ the joint statement said. India, China’s disengagement at Ladakh a ‘win-win situation’, says Army chief MM Naravane

New Delhi: The Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane on Wednesday (February 24, 2021) said that the relationship with China would develop along the path as per India`s wishes. Commenting on phase 1 of the India-China disengagement, Army Chief Naravane called it a win-win situation. "What we have achieved so far is very good and it is a very good end result.. (its a) win-win situation. The agreement signed with any country is premised on the fact that it will be observed in letter and spirit. We will trust, but we verify. We have put systems in place to make sure that there is no re-occupation of these heights and it is part of the agreement," he said. The Army chief said, "Whatever we did as a government, as a nation has shown that the resolve that we have in maintaining our interest foremost. US, UN welcome ceasefire agreement between India, Pakistan, call it a ‘positive step’

Geneva: United Nations General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir has welcomed the agreement between India and Pakistan on ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and other sectors, saying the two countries stated commitment to achieving sustainable peace through addressing each other`s core issues setting "an example" for other countries. "I wholeheartedly welcome today`s ceasefire agreement between #India and #Pakistan. Their stated commitment to achieving sustainable peace through addressing each other`s core issues and concerns sets an example for other countries and demonstrates #UNGA values," Bozkir tweeted.
