‘In Like A Lion’: March Weather Brings Drastic Swing In Temperatures This Week

· February 28, 2021 ·

BOSTON (CBS) — “In Like A Lion, Out Like a Lamb?” March in Boston can have some big twists and turns. The first 48 hours of March 2021 will come with some drastic changes. It will feel like spring midday Monday then the middle of winter by Tuesday morning as a blast of arctic air will dive into New England. There is a chance Boston could see one of its largest 24-hour March temperature swings on record, as a small piece of the polar vortex breaks off and heads in our direction Tuesday. The good news is that this bitter cold air doesn’t hang around long, we recover quite quickly with a return to nearly 50 degrees by Wednesday. So if the rest of the month is anything like the start… it’s going to be a rollercoaster ride. Amazon to hire 100,000 more workers in its latest job spree this year

· September 14, 2020 ·

REUTERS: Amazon.com Inc on Monday said it is recruiting 100,000 more workers: the fourth hiring spree it has announced for the United States this year: to keep pace with e-commerce demand that jumped during the pandemic. The world's biggest online retailer said the positions are for full and part-time work in its home country and Canada, and these will include roles at 100 new warehouse and operations sites it is opening this month. The Seattle-based company employed 876,800 people as of June 30, excluding contractors and temporary personnel. The news reflects Amazon's constant need for labor to pick, pack and ship products to shoppers' doorsteps, with a 40per cent revenue rise last quarter and the biggest profit in the retailer's 26-year-history. It is rolling out automation at its newest buildings at the same time, said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon's vice president of global customer fulfillment. "We will continue to deploy technology where appropriate, starting from a safety … [Read more...] about Amazon to hire 100,000 more workers in its latest job spree this year

Football: Arsenal thinking big this season, says Lacazette

· September 12, 2020 ·

LONDON: Arsenal have big ambitions, French striker Alexandre Lacazette said after their opening-day 3-0 victory at Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday (Sep 13). "It was the best way to start the season," Lacazette, who got on the scoresheet alongside new signing Gabriel and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, told the BBC. "(Manager Mikel Arteta) wants us to be perfect. We have a lot of big ambitions. I want to help the team to be on top and I know it is my job." Lacazette denied media reports he had wanted a move away from Arsenal during the close-season. "I am really happy at Arsenal," said the Frenchman. "It is only the press and other people that say I am not. I want to play and win titles. We want to be aggressive with and without the ball and improve every aspect of our game." Arteta said the situation regarding striker Aubameyang, who is yet to extend his contract which expires next year, was likely to be clarified soon and singled out the performances of … [Read more...] about Football: Arsenal thinking big this season, says Lacazette

Amazon set to open first checkout-free physical stores in the UK ‘this week’

· February 28, 2021 ·

AMAZON is set to open its first physical stores in the UK - and they won't have any checkouts. The online retailer will open the doors to its Amazon Go shops 'this week', after success in the US. The first shop will be located in Ealing in West London, the Mail on Sunday reports. There are no checkouts at Amazon Go stores, instead technology tracks the items you put in your basket. You're charged automatically when you leave via the Amazon Go app. The concept first launched in the US in 2018 and it was first reported last year that the shopping giant was eyeing as many as 30 locations in the UK for bricks and mortar stores . According to the newspaper report, staff are preparing to open the shop this week and there are coverings hiding the Amazon branded store front. The shops use "Just Walk Out" technology which means customers can avoid queueing. Shoppers must scan the supermarket's app on the gated turnstile when entering the stores. Cloud gaming coming to Samsung TVs this summer via Gaikai

· June 5, 2012 ·

Gaikai’s cloud gaming service is already available on several platforms including Facebook and LG televisions but they can soon add another client to their list: Samsung. Starting later this summer, Samsung Series 7000 units and Smart TVs will get the cloud gaming treatment as part of a service called Samsung Cloud Gaming. Engadget points out that a deal between the two companies has been in the works for nine months now. The service will essentially use the same technology that’s used to deliver the service to LG sets but the South Korean company will customize the experience with their own user interface. Gaikai CEO David Perry told the publication that Samsung had always been in their sights since they are the largest electronics manufacturer on the planet. He also outlined the basics of the deal which will see Samsung purchase dedicated bandwidth from the gaming provider on a per-device basis. Gaikai will be responsible for handling traffic as the service becomes more … [Read more...] about Cloud gaming coming to Samsung TVs this summer via Gaikai
