MANCHESTER, England: Manchester United crushed Leeds United 6-2 while Leicester City handed Tottenham Hotspur a second straight defeat in the Premier League on Sunday. United's win, with two goals each for midfielders Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes, sent Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side up to third on 26 points, above fourth-placed Everton on goal difference. Football: Richarlison sets Everton on way to 2-0 win at Leicester

· December 17, 2020 ·

LEICESTER: Brazilian forward Richarlison and defender Mason Holgate scored as Everton earned an impressive 2-0 win at Leicester City in the Premier League on Wednesday (Dec 16). Richarlison fired Carlo Ancelotti's side ahead in the 21st minute, cutting in from the left before unleashing a low drive which Kasper Schmeichel saw late and failed to stop squeezing in the bottom corner. Jamie Vardy had a great chance to pull Leicester level but headed straight at Everton's Robin Olsen, in for Jordan Pickford as Ancelotti rotated his keepers. Everton then suffered a blow when their Brazilian midfielder Allan went down with a hamstring injury and could not continue. Despite the loss of the former Napoli midfielder, who had been influential, Everton maintained their dominance, moving the ball well. The Merseysiders made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute when Schmeichel parried out a Michael Keane header from Gylfi Sigurdsson's corner and did superbly to push Dominic Calvert-Lewin's … [Read more...] about Football: Richarlison sets Everton on way to 2-0 win at Leicester

Surfing: Wright first women’s winner at Pipeline, home triumph for Florence

· December 21, 2020 ·

SYDNEY: Australian Tyler Wright won the first women's tour title at Hawaii's famed Pipeline break on Sunday (Dec 20) after the World Surf League event was moved because of fatal shark attack on a recreational surfer at the original venue. Wright's victory in the Maui Pro was followed by another breakthrough triumph when John John Florence finally claimed a win at his home break, having first competed in the Pipeline Masters as a 13-year-old prodigy in 2005. The events at the dangerous reef break on O'ahu's North Shore marked the return of the WSL tour after a year when travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 prevented any action on the circuit, but they were not without complications. The shark attack on the 56-year-old surfer at Maui's Honolulu Bay earlier this month forced organisers to relocate the women's event and the Pipeline Masters had to be suspended when the WSL's chief executive and other officials tested positive for COVID-19. Wright edged Hawaii's four-times … [Read more...] about Surfing: Wright first women’s winner at Pipeline, home triumph for Florence

Football: Petulant Mourinho denies Leicester plaudits for Spurs win

· December 21, 2020 ·

LONDON: Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho belittled Leicester City's sterling display in a 2-0 win over his side on Sunday (Dec 20), three days after claiming "the best team lost" in a 2-1 stoppage time defeat at Liverpool. "I didn’t think either team played very, very well," Mourinho told the BBC after a Jamie Vardy penalty and a Toby Alderweireld own goal put his side to the sword. "It’s a game where your goalkeeper doesn’t make a single save, but it’s a game that we didn’t play very well. "We deserved to win the game at Liverpool and that would have made it an amazing week because nobody has done that for a long time - the team was phenomenal at Liverpool. Now if you look at the table everybody is there." Having picked up only one point in their last three games, Tottenham are now six points behind champions and leaders Liverpool who followed up on their win over Spurs with a 7-0 demolition of Crystal Palace on Saturday. Mourinho argued Spurs missed the best chances … [Read more...] about Football: Petulant Mourinho denies Leicester plaudits for Spurs win
