The Highs and Lows of NYTW’s

The gutsy little theater on East 4th Street, just in recent seasons, has produced shows like Slave Play, Once , and Hadestown, all of which later traveled uptown to play successfully on Broadway. Its primary impact on the theatrical Zeitgeist, though, struck way back in 1996, with the super-blockbuster Rent , Jonathan Larson’s rock adaptation of Puccini’s La Bohème. To celebrate the show’s silver anniversary, NYTW organized its annual fundraising benefit as a kind of birthday celebration. Between solicitations for donations, it invited current workshop collaborators to talk about Rent ’s impact on their work, Zoomed with old cast and crew members to share their memories of making the show, and presented new interpretations of a few Rent songs by the current crop of Broadway stars. Daphne Rubin-Vega videoed in, looking … [Read more...] about The Highs and Lows of NYTW’s

Woman, 73, gets jail for letting criminals use her bank accounts to handle S$130,000

· March 4, 2021 ·

SINGAPORE: Despite the police telling her to stop speaking to a scammer, an elderly woman continued to communicate with a man known only as "Vincent", allowing him to use her bank accounts to handle S$130,000 in criminal proceeds. Jeanne Jennie Aw Soh Tin, 73, was given seven months' jail on Thursday (Mar 4). She pleaded guilty to three counts of receiving criminal proceeds, with another 16 charges taken into consideration. The defence said the mother of two wanted only to help others out as she is a devout Catholic, and did not take a single cent of the criminal proceeds. She also gave away large sums of her own money to the scammers and has had to take up two jobs despite retiring from a bank years ago and being given a golden handshake. Aw, who sobbed repeatedly throughout the hearing, befriended "Vincent" on Facebook in 2016. She later agreed to receive and remit money to him on his instructions. In December 2016, the police received a report against Aw's POSB account, as … [Read more...] about Woman, 73, gets jail for letting criminals use her bank accounts to handle S$130,000

‘Walking Dead’ $300M Profits Trial Likely Won’t F*cking Include Frank Darabont’s Expletive-Laced Emails

· March 3, 2021 ·

A New York jury will not hear the profanity packed emails of original The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont in the trial for the $300 million profits participation battle from the Shawshank Redemption director and CAA against AMC – at least for now. “The Court is not swayed by Defendants’ argument that, absent Mr. Darabont’s emails, jurors could speculate as to why Mr. Darabont got fired and infer that AMC fired Mr. Darabont to limit his compensation,” wrote NY Supreme Court Justice Joel Cohen in an order Tuesday. “However, if Plaintiffs were to expressly put at issue AMC’s motive for terminating Mr. Darabont, for example by alleging that AMC terminated Mr. Darabont as part of a scheme to deprive him of additional compensation, then the door may be open to such evidence,” he added. “That determination will be made at trial.” Related Story 'Walking Dead' Showrunner Angela Kang Talks Lauren Cohan Return, Season 10c Debut, Teases Final Season & … [Read more...] about ‘Walking Dead’ $300M Profits Trial Likely Won’t F*cking Include Frank Darabont’s Expletive-Laced Emails

CAA “Greed” Is At True Heart Of New $10M ‘Walking Dead’ Suit Declares AMC – Update

· January 18, 2018 ·

(UPDATE with AMC statement) Over four years after former The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont and CAA first took AMC to court in a more than $280 million profit participation action, the duo hit the cabler again today with a new $10 million suit. A suit that AMC is dismissing as being because of the avarice of the uber-agency. “Having recently completed its audit of AMC’s accounting records, it is now clear that AMC’s wrongful conduct extends well beyond artificially deflated license fees,” said the breach of contract and declaratory judgment-seeking complaint filed this morning in New York Supreme Court ( read it here ). “In addition to withholding hundreds of millions of dollars from the creators of the hit television series The Walking Dead through improper self-dealing, which is the subject of litigation between the parties currently pending in this court, AMC has used a variety of shady accounting practices, described below, to withhold tens of … [Read more...] about CAA “Greed” Is At True Heart Of New $10M ‘Walking Dead’ Suit Declares AMC – Update

‘WALKING DEAD’ SHOCKER: Frank Darabont Steps Down As Showrunner

· July 26, 2011 ·

EXCLUSIVE: This is a quite a bombshell — I have learned that Frank Darabont, the creator, executive producer and director of AMC ’s smash hit The Walking Dead , is stepping down as showrunner of the series, which is now in production on its upcoming second season. The news is even more surprising given the fact that Darabont was on hand for Walking Dead’ s Comic-Con panel just this past Friday alongside fellow executive producers Robert Kirkman, on whose graphic novel the series is based, and Gale Anne Hurd and appeared excited about Season 2. There is speculation that Darabont might be off the show completely, but I hear talks are still ongoing about him possibly staying on in some capacity. Darabont, who spent five years trying to get a TV version of the zombie saga off the ground and wrote and directed the AMC pilot, hails from the feature world, and I hear that he never quite adjusted to the daily grind of producing a TV series. Last December, he considered forgoing a … [Read more...] about ‘WALKING DEAD’ SHOCKER: Frank Darabont Steps Down As Showrunner
