Ho Chi Minh City museum to create online exhibition showcasing historic treasures

· February 25, 2021 ·

The Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History is introducing a collection of never-before-seen antiques to the world through an online exhibition. The museum first began developing the exhibition in early February, when administrators realized an online display would allow them to showcase invaluable collections to the public while fulfilling a demand for museum going amongst those too worried to venture into public during the ongoing pandemic. The online exhibit can be found at baotanglichsutphcm.com.vn, where dozens of antiques are on display alongside their full details of origin, initial owners, and value. Hoang Anh Tuan, the museum’s director, said the online exhibition is an experiment in the application of technology to archive management and data extraction. “We have many collections that have yet to be exhibited. This online archive will help us gather information we can use to plan future events,” he said. Update: we've now completed a full Evercade review if you'd like an in-depth report of the game after testing it out for longer. And if you'd like to check out similar retro throwbacks to gaming's classic years, be sure to take a look at our guide to the best retro consoles . ‘Normal’ summer hope for Brits as lockdown to end on June 21 after 4 key steps

· February 22, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson has raised hopes of a ‘normal’ summer by announcing plans to lift all Covid restrictions in England by June 21. The Prime Minister set out a four-step easing of restrictions starting with the return of all children to school and social mixing outdoors ( see below ). He predicted that the success of the vaccine roll-out meant: “Today the end really is in sight”. Mr Johnson told MPs: “A wretched year will give way to a Spring and a Summer that will be incomparably better”. He later added that the “crocus of hope is poking through the frost”. But in a dramatic shift in tone, he stressed that his approach must now be “cautious” to avoid a fourth national lockdown. And he admitted that he could not guarantee that the measures would be “irreversible” - although he wanted them to be. What is your view? Have your say in the comments section Tory MPs have urged him to lift measures by April 26 now that more than 17.7m people have received their first Covid … [Read more...] about ‘Normal’ summer hope for Brits as lockdown to end on June 21 after 4 key steps

Snakes insert their heads into living frogs’ bodies to swallow their organs (because nature is horrifying)

· February 25, 2021 ·

For knife-toothed kukri snakes, the tastiest parts of a frog are its organs, preferably sliced out of the body cavity and eaten while the frog is still alive. After observing this grisly habit for the first time in Thailand, scientists have spotted two more kukri snake species that feast on the organs of living frogs and toads. The new (and gory) observations suggested that this behavior is more widespread in this snake group than expected. Two snakes also eventually swallowed their prey whole, raising new questions about why they would extract the living animals' organs first. The scientists documented a Taiwanese kukri snake ( Oligodon formosanus ) and an ocellated kukri snake ( Oligodon ocellatus ) pursuing amphibian organ meals, tearing open frogs' and toads' abdomens and burying their heads inside, according to the studies. O. formosanus would even perform "death rolls" while clutching its prey, perhaps to shake the organs loose. As the snakes swallowed the organs … [Read more...] about Snakes insert their heads into living frogs’ bodies to swallow their organs (because nature is horrifying)
