RIO DE JANEIRO: Twelve people - including five hostages - were killed in northeast Brazil on Friday (Dec 7) after police foiled a gang of armed robbers staging simultaneous pre-dawn assaults on two banks in the town of Milagres, officials said. The five dead hostages were members of the same family and included two children, the local mayor, Lielson Landim, told the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper. They had been returning from a nearby airport when some of the robbers seized them. The secretary for security in the state of Ceara, Andre Costa, said in a statement that an investigation was being carried out to identify those killed and the circumstances of their deaths. Costa did not say whose bullets killed the hostages. Landim had earlier said that, based on initial information, he understood that "the criminals killed the hostages and the police killed the criminals." Two suspects were arrested, according to Costa's office. "A heavily armed group arrived in the town in the … [Read more...] about Twelve killed in foiled Brazil bank assaults

CAA “Greed” Is At True Heart Of New $10M ‘Walking Dead’ Suit Declares AMC – Update
(UPDATE with AMC statement) Over four years after former The Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont and CAA first took AMC to court in a more than $280 million profit participation action, the duo hit the cabler again today with a new $10 million suit. A suit that AMC is dismissing as being because of the avarice of the uber-agency. “Having recently completed its audit of AMC’s accounting records, it is now clear that AMC’s wrongful conduct extends well beyond artificially deflated license fees,” said the breach of contract and declaratory judgment-seeking complaint filed this morning in New York Supreme Court ( read it here ). “In addition to withholding hundreds of millions of dollars from the creators of the hit television series The Walking Dead through improper self-dealing, which is the subject of litigation between the parties currently pending in this court, AMC has used a variety of shady accounting practices, described below, to withhold tens of … [Read more...] about CAA “Greed” Is At True Heart Of New $10M ‘Walking Dead’ Suit Declares AMC – Update
‘Walking Dead’ Lawsuit: Frank Darabont & CAA Seek Millions More From AMC; Wrongful Termination Claim Finessed
EXCLUSIVE: Nearly a year and a half after the producer and the agency took their first legal swing at the cable channel over alleged unpaid fees, self-dealing, gross receipts and more from The Walking Dead , they’re back today to take a new blockbuster-sized bite with some missing teeth. In a proposed amended complaint filed Tuesday, Frank Darabont and CAA claim that AMC have played even faster and looser with big money due to the producer from the five seasons-and-counting zombie apocalypse hit series. Surprisingly, the amended complaint has also altered the language of the wrong termination claim that had stood as a pillar of the original filing on December 17, 2013 . Darabont exited TWD abruptly in July 2011 after the first season had aired and Season 2 was in production. Whereas the initial complaint said that “AMC wrongful termination of Darabont is further manifest from its failure to comply with its own Standards and Conditions contained in the Agreement” the … [Read more...] about ‘Walking Dead’ Lawsuit: Frank Darabont & CAA Seek Millions More From AMC; Wrongful Termination Claim Finessed
Wildlife group rescues abandoned marmoset seen ‘appearing lost’ at Punggol HDB
SINGAPORE: A black-tufted marmoset, a species of monkey that is one of the most illegally smuggled wildlife, has been rescued after it was spotted in Punggol over the weekend. This is the fifth marmoset rescued in Singapore this year. Wildlife rescue group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) told Channel NewsAsia on Monday (Dec 17) it received an alert on Saturday night that the marmoset had been "sighted appearing lost" outside Block 271D, Punggol Walk. ACRES officers visited the area on Sunday morning to look for the animal and interview residents. A member of the public later spotted the adult marmoset at a basement parking area and managed to contain it in a cardboard box and alert ACRES. "ACRES is shocked to rescue a fifth marmoset in a year," the rescue group told Channel NewsAsia. "Such abandoned exotic wildlife is just a tip of the iceberg, and several other individuals may go undetected, still being held captive at homes illegally or traded … [Read more...] about Wildlife group rescues abandoned marmoset seen ‘appearing lost’ at Punggol HDB
