Police arrest Chiang Rai woman with thousands of counterfeit US$100 bills

PHOTOS: Facebook/32nd Border Patrol Police Counterfeit US dollar banknotes valued more than 16 million baht have been seized at a Chiang Rai house after police organised a sting. A 54 year old woman was arrested over the matter last Thursday. The sting followed a tip off to border patrol police about the fake USD notes being circulated around tambon Rim Kok. Police say they discovered two metal boxes containing fake US$100 notes in the house of Masaras Nitisakyothin. Police also found hundred of black notes the same size as the $100 bills believed to be a part of the process of making finished counterfeit notes One box contained 4,949 banknotes, a second box contained 524 banknotes, the total valued at more than 16 million baht. Police conducted a sting where an undercover officer posed as a buyer of the counterfeit currency and contacted the owner of the fakes. (This story was first published in TOI on March 6, 2021) New Delhi: Farmers protesting the Centre's three new farm laws on Saturday blocked the six-lane Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway at some places in Haryana to mark the completion of 100 days of their agitation at the Delhi borders. The call for blocking the expressway, which is also known as the Western Peripheral Expressway, was given by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of protesting farmer unions that is spearheading the agitation against the new farm legislation. Krabi health officials dismiss reports of 100 suspected virus patients

Days before PM Prayut Cha-ocha issued his ominous warning on spreading fake news about the Coronavirus outbreak, health officials of the Krabi Provincial Public Health Office (KPHO) refuted recent reports that 100 or more people are in isolation there on suspicion of being infected. The reports surfaced Saturday and appeared in several national news outlets, even including a “quote” from a doctor of the office claiming that 10 of the people were Thai. “The reports are wrong. Only five people are under observation” according to the KPHO. The news came at a press conference at Krabi Provincial Hall, also on Saturday, headed by Krabi’s vice governor , Krabi Hospital’s director and a KPHO representative. Craft fair to mark 100 years of jail

PHUKET TOWN: Phuket is to host an unusual national craft fair at Saphan Hin from July 20 to 26. The fair will mark the 100th anniversary of the island’s prison and will be titled, appropriately, “Neung Roi Phi Kangmanmook” – 100 Years of the Prison. National Corrections Department director general Siva Saengmanee flew in yesterday morning from Bangkok to announce that, because of the anniversary, Phuket had been chosen for this year’s prison fair, featuring products made in jails all over Thailand. Products at the fair (to be held at Saphan Hin, not in the jail) will include woodwork, furniture, metalwork and basket-weave products, all made by prisoners, and all for sale. A crowd of about 5,000 is expected for a concert, starting at 9 pm on the first day of the fair, which will feature Thai singer-actor, “Touch” Na Takuatung as well as performers from Phuket. K. Entries for Phuket King’s Cup Regatta near 100 mark

PHUKET: Almost 100 boats have already registered for this year’s Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, which will get underway off Kata Beach on December 4. Inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand, the event attracts participants from around the world and generates in excess of 100 million baht into the local economy annually. This will be the 24th staging of the King’s Cup Regatta and the event has received 97 entries to date. This year’s Regatta will take place over eight days and boast over 100 boats in various categories. The competition will culminate with the grand final on December 11, when the winner of the Royal Trophy will be crowned. Last year was another record year for the Regatta, with 111 entries and participants from over 30 countries taking part. “The 2010 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is considered the biggest regatta in Asia, and this year with already 97 entries we are hopeful of surpassing last year’s record fleet.
