She's a busy mom of three. And on Wednesday, Ashlee Simpson had her 'little helper' with her as she shopped for groceries in LA. Daughter Jagger, five, held hands with her famous mother as they walked across the parking lot to the supermarket and got a ride back to their car on the side of the fully stocked shopping cart. Oscars: Pete Hammond’s Absolutely Final Predictions For The 93rd Annual Academy Awards
It’s been a year like no other. Actually, make that two years like no other, since eligibility in the unusual 14-month Oscar calendar was extended by two months until February 28, 2021. This will be the first Academy Awards since the sixth edition, listed as 1932-33, that will have included one year and part of the other, and this year’s awards will technically be categorized as 2020-21. While many theaters remained closed, streamers like Netflix and Amazon became more prominent than ever — a sea change that even the cinema-centric Academy had to acknowledge by making films automatically eligible even if they first debuted on a streamer, at least for this year. Still, as the nominations showed, and my predictions will support, the traditional studios, whether alone or with the help of their specialty divisions, still look to triumph once the history of this weird season finally is written. An earlier version of this predictions piece appeared in the Awardsline digital … [Read more...] about Oscars: Pete Hammond’s Absolutely Final Predictions For The 93rd Annual Academy Awards

New rules allowing small drones to fly over people take effect
The Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) said that final rules announced in December took effect allowing for small drones to fly over people and at night, a significant step toward their eventual use for widespread commercial deliveries. The effective date was delayed about a month during the change in administration. The FAA said its long-awaited rules for the drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles, will address security concerns by requiring remote identification technology in most cases to enable their identification from the ground. Previously, small drone operations over people were limited to operations over people who were directly participating in the operation, located under a covered structure, or inside a stationary vehicle - unless operators had obtained a waiver from the FAA. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Wednesday the rules "are an important first step in safely and securely managing the growing use of drones in our airspace, … [Read more...] about New rules allowing small drones to fly over people take effect
Báez hits slam, Cubs get boost from Mets errors in 16-4 romp
CHICAGO - Javier Báez insisted he was seeing the ball well and had his timing down, though his approach was a little off and the results weren’t what he wanted. This time, everything clicked. Báez hit a grand slam and the Chicago Cubs took advantage of a season-high four errors by the New York Mets in a 16-4 romp on a chilly Wednesday night at Wrigley Field. Báez, who struck out four times Tuesday, scored three runs in this one and hit his sixth career slam off reliever Trevor Hildenberger in the sixth inning to make it 14-4. The flashy shortstop became the first player to go 0 for 4 with four strikeouts in one game and then hit a grand slam in the next since Gorman Thomas did it for Milwaukee in the first two games of the 1978 season, according to STATS. “I felt really good,” Báez said. “I’ve seen the ball good. My hitting coaches knew it.” David Bote drove in four runs as the Cubs won their second straight after losing six of eight. Matt Duffy added three RBIs and Willson … [Read more...] about Báez hits slam, Cubs get boost from Mets errors in 16-4 romp
