The 26th annual Critics Choice Awards recently honoured the movies and television releases in the last year. While the winners remained similar to the leading names during the Golden Globe Awards 2021, the Critics Choice Awards organizers chose a complete virtual ceremony. Chloé Zhao's Nomadland took home some of the biggest honours of the night including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Adapted Screenplay. Meanwhile, Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Minari followed suit. Late Chadwick Boseman, Carey Mulligan, and Alan Kim Won Best Actor/ Actress and Young Talent. On the other hand, similar to the Golden Globes, The Crown led the night by winning in four categories including Best Drama Series, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress. Meanwhile, Schitt's Creek, Ted Lasso and The Queen's Gambit also took home several awards. The COVID-19 pandemic-impacted ceremony had mix of in-person/virtual appearances with Taye Diggs donning the cap of the host for the evening from Los Angeles while the nominees made digital appearances from world over. BERLIN (AP) – Swiss voters narrowly approved on Sunday a proposal to ban face coverings, both the niqabs and burqas worn by a few Muslim women in the country and the ski masks and bandannas used by protesters. The measure will outlaw covering one’s face in public places like restaurants, sports stadiums, public transport or simply walking in the street. It foresees exceptions at religious sites and for security or health reasons, such as face masks people are wearing now to protect against COVID-19, as well as for traditional Carnival celebrations. Authorities have two years to draw up detailed legislation. Two Swiss cantons, or states, Ticino and St. Gallen, already have similar legislation that foresees fines for transgressions. National legislation will put Switzerland in line with countries such as Belgium and France that have already enacted similar measures. HONG KONG - Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said on Monday (March 8) that China’s planned changes to the electoral system could further delay a vote for the city’s legislature, but she was still uncertain on the timing. China’s Parliament, the National People’s Congress (NPC), is expected to approve on Thursday a resolution that will reduce democratic representation in Hong Kong institutions and vet any candidate for patriotism. The measures will tweak the size and composition of Hong Kong’s legislature and the committee selecting the chief executive further in favour of pro-Beijing figures. The electoral committee will also be given powers to select many of the legislators.
