The Polish government has approved a new bill that foresees prison terms of up to three years for anyone who uses phrases like “Polish death camps” to refer to Auschwitz and other camps that Nazi Germany operated in occupied Poland during the second world war. The justice department said the prime minister Beata Szydło’s cabinet approved the legislation on Tuesday. It is expected to pass easily in the parliament, where the nationalistic ruling party Law and Justice enjoys a majority. The bill aims to deal with a problem the Polish government has faced for years: foreign media outlets referring to the Nazi camps as Polish. Ban hands-free phones in cars after rise in road deaths, MPs suggest
Tougher restrictions on drivers using mobile phones, including extending the ban to hands-free devices, should be considered, MPs have said. The transport select committee said using any type of mobile phone while driving had potentially catastrophic consequences. The MPs called for more severe penalties “commensurate with the risks”, as road deaths linked to phone use have risen steadily over the past decade. In 2017, there were 773 casualties on Britain’s roads, including 43 deaths and 135 serious injuries, in crashes in which the driver was using a mobile phone. But rates of enforcement had dropped by more than two-thirds since 2011, the committee said, as it called on the government to work with police to make better use of technology and deter offenders. Former Miss Pakistan World Zanib Naveed (pictured) was killed in a road accident in Maryland after her car flipped over into oncoming traffic A former Miss Pakistan beauty queen has been killed after her car flipped over into oncoming traffic. Zanib Naveed was driving her Mercedes eastbound along route 200 in the College Park area of Maryland at around 11.40pm on Sunday when she hit a curb. She went to take a curve to Route 1 and her vehicle struck a curb, overturning into oncoming traffic, police said. Mrs Naveed was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. She was the only person in the car at the time. Authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. The 32-year-old was from Lahore, Pakistan but lived in Pomona, New York. Zanib Naveed, 32, was driving a luxury Mercedes sedan on a highway in the US state of Maryland at around 11.40pm (3.40om AEST) last Sunday, when she attempted to take a curve to another highway and her vehicle struck a kerb and flipped over, state police said. According to the New York Post, she was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The 32-year-old was from Lahore, Pakistan but lived in New York.
