Important to balance govt’s key goals for S’pore: PM Lee

· December 2, 2012 ·

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the government is adjusting the balance between its key goals to achieve Singapore's future objectives. Mr Lee, who likened these goals to yin and yang elements that complement each other, said it is important to strike a balance between them. Mr Lee, who is also secretary-general of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP), said this at the party's 32nd conference on Sunday morning. Stressing that the PAP must set a clear direction, he highlighted three key goals. First, it wants to achieve a vibrant economy by creating good jobs for everyone, as well as a harmonious society where people can enjoy a balanced and fulfilling life. Second, it wants a meritocratic system where people succeed based on their effort and contributions, along with special effort to help those who start off with less to do well in school and upgrade at work. Third, it wants to build a Singapore where citizens belong and feel as one, as well as an … [Read more...] about Important to balance govt’s key goals for S’pore: PM Lee

Sen. Josh Hawley Wants Yale’s Federal Funding Stripped If Religious Students Are Not Treated Fairly

· April 10, 2019 ·

Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley said during an appearance with “Fox & Friends” Wednesday that he wants Yale University’s federal funding taken away if the school does not treat religious students fairly. “I want to see that they are treating religious students and religious organizations in the same way they treat every other legal organization and every other student,” Hawley, who graduated from Yale Law in 2006, said. WATCH: “If Yale doesn’t do that, if they don’t treat religious students fairly, they should have their federal funding stripped,” Hawley continued. Hawley’s remarks come as Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said he will investigate the law school’s policy that allegedly blacklists Christian groups. Yale Law changed its policy on school stipends following complaints from an LGBTQ group called Outlaws, which criticized the Federalist Society for inviting a lawyer from Christian legal group Alliance Defending Freedom in February. “The Law … [Read more...] about Sen. Taiwan Hails Republican Bill to Formalize U.S. Ties, but Experts See Flaws

· March 4, 2021 ·

The Taiwanese government expressed its gratitude to two Republican congressmen on Tuesday after they introduced a bill to scrap the United States' one-China policy and re-establish formal relations with Taipei. Analysts, however, have raised concerns about the presentation of the text and what appear to be uncertainties surrounding significant terminology in Taiwan policy discussions. House Republicans Tom Tiffany and Scott Perry introduced the non-binding concurrent resolution on Friday. The bill, almost identical to one tabled by Tiffany last September, also calls for the negotiation of a free-trade agreement between Taipei and Washington, as well as support for Taiwan's membership in international organizations. Washington switched formal diplomatic allegiance from Taipei to Beijing in 1979. Interactions with the island nation have been guided by the Taiwan Relations Act of the same year and later the Six Assurances of 1982. Beijing, meanwhile, deems any relationship … [Read more...] about Taiwan Hails Republican Bill to Formalize U.S. Ties, but Experts See Flaws

Water and building blocks for life found on ASTEROID for first time giving hope for ET discovery

· March 5, 2021 ·

FOR the first time, scientists have discovered the key ingredients for life on Earth present on an asteroid. Water and organic matter were found during an analysis of a fragment collected from the cosmic rock Itokawa by a Japanese spacecraft. The finding adds weight to the theory that life may spread from one planet to another by piggybacking on asteroids and other space debris. If true, this could explain how life arose here on Earth and would heavily imply that alien lifeforms are present across the known universe. On top of that, the discovery sheds fresh light on the constantly evolving processes of the universe, scientists said. "These findings are really exciting as they reveal complex details of an asteroid’s history and how its evolution pathway is so similar to that of the prebiotic Earth," said team member Dr Queenie Chan of Royal Holloway University in London. Itokawa is a 500-metre wide space rock that orbits within the inner Solar System. It's thought … [Read more...] about Water and building blocks for life found on ASTEROID for first time giving hope for ET discovery
