New COVID cases once more surpass recoveries in dist

In 24 hrs, 1,600 fresh cases reported, while 1,083 discharged; at least 6 deaths reported in same time Fresh COVID cases surpassed recoveries in Pune district by far on Sunday, with 1,600 new patients reported in 24 hours, taking the cumulative total till date 4,08,053. With five deaths reported on the same day, the district death toll now stands at 9,240. While PMC saw four deaths, PCMC reported one. Comparatively, a smaller number of virus-infected patients — 1,083 — were discharged after successful treatment from various hospitals; this takes the total recoveries to 3,88,610 in the district. TVS Motor two-wheeler sales grow 21% to 284,581 units in Feb

Domestic two-wheeler sales were at 195,145 units in the outgoing month, witnessing an increase of 15%. It sold 169,684 units in February 2020. The company recorded sales of 137,259 motorcycles in February 2021, up 16% against 118,514 units in February 2020. Meanwhile, scooter sales rose by 56% registering 95,525 units in February 2021 as against 60,633 units in February 2020. In the three-wheeler segment, TVS Motor witnessed a decline of 24.02% to 13,166 units in February 2021 as against 17,370 units in February 2020. The company's total exports grew by 23% registering 101,789 units in February 2021 as against 82,877 units in February 2020. Two-wheeler exports increased by 35% to 89,436 units in February 2021 compared to the same month last year. Demand in the export market continues to be robust, but scarcity in container availability is affecting overall export volumes, the automaker said. Another Nanjing Massacre survivor dies

Video Player Close NANJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- A Nanjing Massacre survivor passed away at the age of 95 on Monday, reducing the number of registered survivors to 70, said the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. Cai Lihua was the second survivor to die this year. "In the winter of 1937, Japanese soldiers suddenly broke into my house. I watched with my own eyes as they tied my father's hands and hung him on a wooden ladder before brutally stabbing his eyes with a bayonet, making egg-sized holes in my father's eyes, and then killed him with several shots," Cai once said in a testimony. "My mother was also stabbed in the back and a bullet grazed her scalp. I was there and narrowly escaped by hiding under a table," said the testimony. COVID-19: All foreign worker dormitories to have medical teams of doctors and nurses from hospitals, polyclinics

SINGAPORE: Medical teams comprising doctors and nurses from hospitals and polyclinics will be deployed to all foreign worker dormitories by the middle of this week, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Tuesday (Apr 14). MOH director of medical services Kenneth Mak said seven to eight such teams are already on the ground, with another 15 to 18 teams moving in on Tuesday. The teams will be staffed by between one to three doctors and at least three nurses depending on the size of the dormitory and needs on the ground, Associate Professor Mak said. These medical professionals have willingly stepped forward to support foreign workers, he added. "They tend to the workers who are unwell, swab those who have acute respiratory symptoms, they manage the cases that need to be sent to other facilities and then they will also assess if the workers are well enough to be returned to their rooms," Minister for Manpower Josephine Teo said at a press conference on Tuesday. Further rise in bond yields seen; oil likely at $100/barrel

The 10-year and 30-year US Treasury finished at 1.34 per cent and 2.13 per cent, respectively, last week. The rise in US bond yields spooked investors last week and there could a further increase given the inflation dynamics, according to Christopher Wood, global head of equity strategy at Jefferies. “The US bond market sell-off has continued over the past week, and with it the increased potential for an inflation scare. "Still, there is plenty of scope for bonds to sell off more since the last time the 5-year forward inflation expectation rate was running at current levels (namely in early December 2018), the 10- and 30-year bond yields were significantly higher at 2.91 per cent and 3.17 per cent, respectively,” the market guru said in his newsletter GREED & fear.
