Sex and politics have been banned in TV soaps in a new wave of censorship in Egypt. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has come down hard on entertainment and news industries over the past three years and a new regulatory agency is overseeing output and censoring content. Soap operas now must contain no sex scenes, no blasphemy and no politics. Police and other authority figures should be presented positively. Gamal el Adl, who owns one of the most popular television production companies in the Middle East, says he thought he could manage by steering clear of the biggest taboos. Bad Football, Fake Springsteen, Real Probe: Inside New Jersey’s Investigation Into Trump’s Inaugural
The owner of the New York Jets. A Bruce Springsteen cover band. And a firm that hired a pair of Donald Trump’s golf caddies. Those are just some of the characters featured in the local efforts in New Jersey to raise money for Donald Trump’s inaugural—efforts that are now under scrutiny by the state’s attorney general. Prosecutors in New Jersey are staying tight-lipped, and, unlike in the federal investigation launched across the Hudson River in New York, no specific individuals or corporations have been named in any subpoenas. No one has been publicly accused of wrongdoing. But after speaking to more than a dozen individuals who had either donated to the inaugural committee or helped with fundraising activities in New Jersey, a fuzzy picture has begun to emerge. And it is just as eccentric as the Garden State itself. New Jersey Attorney … [Read more...] about Bad Football, Fake Springsteen, Real Probe: Inside New Jersey’s Investigation Into Trump’s Inaugural
Boris Johnson to visit new Tory seats in north-east England
Boris Johnson is to visit the north-east of England as part of an election victory lap, meeting Conservative MPs who ousted Labour rivals from their seats in former “red wall” heartlands.
