Prevent under-13 kids from opening FB accounts: HC to Centre

· July 16, 2013 ·

The Delhi high court on Tuesday slammed the Centre for not enacting a law to prevent persons aged below 13 years from opening accounts in social networking sites like the Facebook or Google. The court also asked Facebook and Google to consider putting a warning note on their homepage stating that it is illegal for those under the age of 13 to open an account. "The world has gone way ahead, we are way behind" on protection of children from online abuse, the Delhi high court today told the Centre, lamenting lack of adequate laws to address the issue. The court made the remarks after it was told by the petitioner that in the United States there is a law 'Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)' as per which a child below 13 years of age is not allowed to open an account. "Do you have any such act for online privacy? Nothing. You are not focussed on this issue at all. The world has gone far ahead. We are way behind," the court told the Centre. The bench was … [Read more...] about Prevent under-13 kids from opening FB accounts: HC to Centre

Marcus Rashford to teach kids how to cook cheap dinners as part of food poverty campaign

· April 22, 2021 ·

FOOTBALLER Marcus Rashford will swap pitches for kitchens to teach kids how to cook cheap dinners as part of his heroic food poverty campaign. The Man Utd ace will be joined by Michelin-starred TV chef Tom Kerridge in a new series of Instagram videos called Full Time, launching today. The pair will show how to knock up 52 filling dinners with ingredients costing pennies and equipment as limited as just a kettle. Marcus, 23, said he was forced to learn the very basics while filming - starting with how to peel a carrot. He said: “Even though I’m not the best cook, I’ve enjoyed it massively. I like getting in the kitchen and doing my best - and it turns out to be quite fun. “I enjoy putting myself in situations where I know I’m going to have to concentrate and learn and take steps forward. “Sometimes young people are afraid of mistakes. But when I was younger my brother always told me, if you don’t make mistakes you will never be the player that you can become. … [Read more...] about Marcus Rashford to teach kids how to cook cheap dinners as part of food poverty campaign

Say Hey, kid! Willie Mays wins lifetime achievement award

· April 22, 2021 ·

NEW YORK - Willie Mays has won the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Baseball Digest. The Hall of Fame centre fielder was honoured Thursday with a new accolade to be given annually recognizing a living individual who has made “significant contributions to the national game.” Mays, who turns 90 on May 6, was chosen over five other finalists in voting by a panel of longtime baseball writers, broadcasters, historians and executives. The Say Hey Kid appears on the cover of Baseball Digest for the fourth time. “I never worried about personal awards. I worried about winning,” Mays said in a news release. “But to be honoured with this Lifetime Achievement Award, that’s a great honour, especially with all the other great names (considered). All deserving. It’s a sports award, it’s a baseball award, but it’s much more. It’s about all the things you do. For me, it’s about helping kids and making sure they’re taken care of because so many people took care of me in my … [Read more...] about Say Hey, kid! Willie Mays wins lifetime achievement award

‘An endless burden’: I have no kids and no regrets

· April 20, 2021 ·

THE DETAIL/RNZ Kiwis are having much fewer children than before, but what are the consequences of our declining birth rate on the economy and the environment? OPINION: From the age of 15 I knew I never wanted children. I didn’t even like them when I was one. I was the baby of my family, born when my siblings were teenagers. Perhaps that’s why I always felt more grown up than my friends, and preferred to be around adults. People would say ‘oh you’ll get married and want babies then’. I married twice and had two long-term relationships and never once did I want children, ever. I was very lucky that all my partners either actively did not want children or were ambivalent about it. I only ever had that fuzzy feeling for animals. I saw my friends launch into motherhood with all its attendant traumas from conception onwards and was always so grateful that I didn’t desire the same thing. One friend was pregnant at 16 and a grandmother at 32. No thanks! READ MORE: Childless … [Read more...] about ‘An endless burden’: I have no kids and no regrets
