Europe’s medicines regulator said on Thursday it had started a rolling review of Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, an important display of confidence in the shot that paves the way for its potential approval across the 27-nation bloc. Hungary became the first EU country to grant the Russian vaccine emergency national approval in January, Slovakia has ordered shipments, and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis has said his country could move to use Sputnik V. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said in a statement it would review data from ongoing trials of the vaccine until there was enough evidence for a formal marketing authorisation application. EMA’s ‘rolling reviews’ are aimed at speeding up the approval process by allowing researchers to submit findings in real-time before final trial data is ready. “While EMA cannot predict the overall timelines, it should take less time than normal to evaluate an eventual application because of the work done during the rolling review,” … [Read more...] about Europe starts formal review of Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine

In an exclusive interview, he said: “There’s actually a couple of really exciting projects that I’m involved in and we’re trying to get up and running in terms of my acting. There’s going to be some acting stuff coming up. “I’ve done a few lessons and shot a few casting videos and I’m choosing between a couple of agents at the moment.” James stayed tight-lipped on details of the production, but when asked if shooting would begin this year, he teased: “I think there’s a really good chance that it will, yeah. Jacelyn Tay explains why eating salads won’t help you lose weight
When the term "diet" is mentioned, it is natural for one to instinctively think of salads. However, is "rabbit food" really that effective in helping you lose weight? According to former actress Jacelyn Tay, the answer is no. On Friday (Mar 5), the 45-year-old took to her Instagram to explain just why salads may even cause you to gain weight. She started the post off by busting the myth that simply eating healthy food is enough to lose weight. According to Jacelyn, if you use the wrong cooking methods or eat your food in the wrong sequence, you may even experience hormonal issues and weight gain. Case in point: goitrogenic vegetables such as kale, spinach and broccoli contain a chemical that slows down our thyroid glands, which are also responsible for our metabolism, she explained. "Eating less doesn't help weight loss if your metabolism is already low", she wrote. [[nid:505214]] "So many people believe in eating raw salads for weight loss. Cabinet revamp won’t be last during this term: PM Lee
SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the latest Cabinet reshuffle will not be the last during this term. Prime Minister Lee on Tuesday announced changes to his Cabinet, just 14 months after a new team was formed after the 2011 General Election. In replies to media queries, Prime Minister Lee said that since the new ministers had settled in, it was time to promote others who had stepped up to the plate to better address Singapore's priorities and challenges. On his assessment of the new team, Mr Lee said the new ministers have performed well. He said they plunged deep in right from the start and have tackled their tasks energetically and imaginatively. Mr Lee said: "They have learnt quickly and become more confident and familiar with the issues. "I have decided to appoint two new Acting Ministers in this round - Tan Chuan-Jin and Lawrence Wong. "But the others have done well too, and I will give them heavier responsibilities in due course." He added the … [Read more...] about Cabinet revamp won’t be last during this term: PM Lee
Parts of road next to Kampung Admiralty to be pedestrianised in a trial starting in February
SINGAPORE - From next month, a stretch of road next to Kampung Admiralty will be temporarily closed off to cars and other private vehicles as part of a trial to repurpose road lanes as footpaths, pedestrianised streets or cycling paths. Water-filled barriers will placed along a stretch of Woodlands Ring Road, located between Woodlands Drive 63 and Drive 71, closing off the westbound lane to traffic, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Thursday (Jan 21). The eastbound lane of the road will be converted to a bus-only road that only public buses and emergency vehicles can access. The partial pedestrianisation of Woodlands Ring Road comes after the Transport Ministry set out plans in August last year to re-imagine Singapore's road infrastructure, by converting certain under-used road lanes into cycling and bus lanes, as well as pedestrianising certain roads. It is part of Singapore's ongoing push to go car-lite, and promote walking and cycling. Other car-lite projects … [Read more...] about Parts of road next to Kampung Admiralty to be pedestrianised in a trial starting in February
