The Cost of Living in New York City Just Got Even Higher

· July 8, 2017 ·

Ahhh, good old New York, New York. There's truly no place on Earth quite like it. The streets are constantly bustling with bike-riders, buses, yellow cabs and black Ubers, Vias and Lyfts. The congested sidewalks remain crowded with people from all walks of life at any given time in the day or night. Restaurants are stacked on top of restaurants and bars are located right next door to bars. Albeit not an easy place to call home—garbage lined streets reek in the summer, and rats and roaches are nearly considered neighbors—just about any resident will tell you, living in New York City is indeed a magical experience. And It doesn't take all that much to plant roots here. A scroll through a few sketchy Craigslist ads, an email or two later—and boom! You've found a cruddy little room in a tiny apartment with three other people to call your own. It's bliss. But the dream won't come cheap, especially since real estate in Manhattan recently hit a new record. Although real … [Read more...] about The Cost of Living in New York City Just Got Even Higher

New York City Is Becoming Fast-Food Capital of America, and Chick-fil-A Chains Are Rising

· November 8, 2017 ·

New Yorkers really love their Chick-fil-A. New York City is slowly starting to become the leading capital of the fast food nation, according to an article from Crain's New York. The article found that the busiest lunchtime restaurant is the Chick-fil-A in Midtown, where the restaurant sells 3,000 sandwiches a day and a person orders a chicken sandwich every six seconds. The favorite lunchtime spot that racks up $13 million in revenue is currently expanding and plans to open 12 new restaurants in the city. One of their new chains is set to open in the Financial District and will be a five-story-high building with a rooftop that overlooks the Freedom Tower. But, New Yorkers love fast food so much Chick-fil-A is not the only fast food chain expanding. In September, Taco Bell announced their plans to expand their chain and triple the number of restaurants—25 so far—and Five Guys has grown to 20 restaurants in the city since 2009. "Fast-food chains used to draw a skull and … [Read more...] about New York City Is Becoming Fast-Food Capital of America, and Chick-fil-A Chains Are Rising

The parade, which travels north on Sixth Avenue from Spring Street to W. 16th Street, is set to begin at 7 p.m. and end around 11 p.m. tonight. In the attack, eight people were killed and others were injured after a 29-year-old driver in a rented Home Depot truck deliberately targeted pedestrians and cyclists using a popular bike path along the scenic Hudson River, police said. Officials confirmed reports that the driver exited the vehicle and screamed "Allahu akbar," before he was shot in the abdomen and taken into custody.A pellet gun and a paintball … [Read more...] about New York City Halloween Parade Still On Despite Terror Attack

New York City Cafe Accused Of Turning Away Black Trick-Or-Treaters

· November 4, 2017 ·

A cafe in a Brooklyn neighborhood is being called out for racially discriminating against black trick-or-treaters by not giving them candy on Halloween. The Strand Cafe in Bedford–Stuyvesant allegedly turned away black trick-or-treaters, and only gave candy to white children. Oma Holloway, an advisory board member for Community Board 3, said she and another fellow board member saw a cafe member tell three group of black children dressed up for Halloween that the shop was not participating in the holiday, local news outlet Kings County Politics first reported. But, when a white mother took her children dressed in costumes inside the cafe, Holloway said the employee handed treats to the children. Holloway took action and immediately called out the cafe barista. "You got to be kidding me," she said she told him. "Little black kids walk in and you don't have candy for them, but you have candy for the white kids. This is unacceptable, here or anywhere." The Bedford–Stuyvesant … [Read more...] about New York City Cafe Accused Of Turning Away Black Trick-Or-Treaters

New York Times: US ‘secretly expelled’ Chinese officials who entered ‘sensitive’ military base

· December 15, 2019 ·

Washington (CNN)Two Chinese Embassy officials were "secretly expelled" by the US earlier this year after they entered a "sensitive" military base in Virginia, The New York Times reported Sunday, citing conversations with people with knowledge of the episode. The Times said half a dozen people with knowledge of the expulsions said US officials believe "at least one of the Chinese officials, who were with their wives, was an intelligence officer operating under diplomatic cover." Officials at the Chinese Embassy "complained to State Department officials about the expulsions," the Times reported, noting that the action comes amid heightened tensions between the US and China, "the world's two largest economies and biggest strategic rivals." The newspaper said that the September incident occurred at a base near Norfolk, Virginia, that includes Special Operations forces. The Chinese officials and their spouses drove a car up to an entry checkpoint where a guard, "realizing they did not … [Read more...] about New York Times: US ‘secretly expelled’ Chinese officials who entered ‘sensitive’ military base
