February 25, 2021 10:19 The overheated Korea Composite Stock Price Index showed signs of cooling on Wednesday, closing down 2.45 percent at 2,994.98 points and below 3,000 points for the first time since Jan. 29. A further decline was averted by Samsung Electronics' shares remaining steady at W82,000 (US$1=W1,109). Foreign investors sold more than W430 billion worth of stocks and institutional investors W130 billion. Retail investors still snapped up W560 billion worth but were unable to stem the crash. Virtual therapy is a potential step toward dehumanization. There is no argument—physical co-presence and all that goes along with it, subtle visual cues, scents, chemistry—just isn't the same as an image or a voice on the line. We can imagine high-tech VR therapy, hyperreal, augmented, and transcending physicality. Why not jack into the brain and conjure something more-than—but today’s technology is a dim forerunner of that science-fiction reality. Pragmatically, teletherapy is useful, was arriving regardless, and, courtesy of coronavirus , is now suddenly here . As the potential for distress from COVID-19 increases, the effect of isolation, failure of trust in authority, as-yet-unrealized consequences, the sense of fear from vulnerability—in spite of resilience , people need support and therapy. With this in … [Read more...] about Virtual Therapy: 9 New Lessons for Patients and Therapists
China conducted its seventh national population census in November and December. The results are startling. China’s downward human spiral is accelerating, according to the government’s new numbers . This isn’t just a social and economic problem for China. It threatens the country’s geostrategic position in the long term and international security in the short term. U.S. foreign and defense policymakers should pay close attention to how Beijing responds to the news. Chinese mothers bore fewer babies in 2020 than in any year since 1961. Some provinces reported a 30 percent drop. This, on top of nearly a decade of contraction in working-age Chinese citizens is speeding up the pace of population aging. By 2050, a Chinese government think tank announced , there will be only one worker supporting each dependent old person; today there are two workers supporting each elderly person. By comparison, China’s old-age dependency ratio, a key indicator of future economic stability, has … [Read more...] about Biden’s Pentagon can exploit China’s population decline
