Covid vaccines available in GP surgeries TODAY – all you need to know about getting yours

· January 7, 2021 ·

COVID vaccines will be available from GP surgeries from today - as the race to protect Brits from the virus is ramped up. The Oxford/AstraZeneca jab can be stored at fridge temperatures making it easier to administer, unlike the Pfizer jab which requires storage at -70C. It's hoped more than 700 GP surgeries will be delivering vaccines by the end of the week - after the UK recorded the highest daily death toll since April. The UK reported a further 1,041 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday. Record numbers are also currently in hospital with coronavirus, with a further 3,500 admitted in England on Monday. Some 1.3 million people have already received either the Pfizer/BioNTech or Oxford/AstraZeneca jab. And millions of extra Covid vaccines could be ready within weeks as approval times for fresh batches are slashed to just five days. The jabs will be given to those deemed most vulnerable to the virus first - and are … [Read more...] about Covid vaccines available in GP surgeries TODAY – all you need to know about getting yours

Manchester Arena inquiry: Live exercise before bombing was ‘catastrophic failure’

· February 24, 2021 ·

A live counter-terrorism exercise a year before the Manchester Arena bombing was a "catastrophic failure" and would have led to even more loss of life had it been real, the inquiry has heard. Firefighters and paramedics did not turn up for more than two hours after the police failed to call them forward during the 2016 exercise - a situation replicated on the night of the bombing. On the night of the attack in May 2017, firefighters did not deploy to the arena for more than two hours because they could not get through to police - and only one paramedic entered the scene of the explosion in the first 40 minutes. The inquiry is investigating whether any of the 22 victims could have been saved if the emergency services had reacted faster. During the training exercise, a police inspector refused to let the fire and ambulance services into the inner cordon and the exercise was packing up by the time they finally arrived, the inquiry was told. Microsoft Flight Simulator’s new UK update brings famous castles and football stadiums to life

· February 16, 2021 ·

Microsoft Flight Simulator is getting a big update today focused on the UK and Ireland. The World Update III, as Microsoft puts it, includes high-resolution 3G imagery for cities like London, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, and Oxford. More than 70 custom landmarks and points of interest have been improved, including famous bridges, palaces, cathedrals, and famous Premier League football (soccer!) stadiums. If you’ve tried to visit some Premier League clubs in Flight Simulator already, you’ve probably noticed they’re usually just a giant generic-looking apartment block. This update aims to improve that experience with detailed views of exactly where the Premier League is played week in week out. Likewise, Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s London residence, now looks greatly improved compared to before . Microsoft is also adding in hand-crafted airports for Barra, Liverpool, Land’s End, Manchester-Barton, and Out Skerries. Another particular part of this update is detailed … [Read more...] about Microsoft Flight Simulator’s new UK update brings famous castles and football stadiums to life

Australia, Qatar withdraw from 2021 Copa America

· February 24, 2021 ·

The Socceroos and Al Annabi had been scheduled to contest the tournament, due to be held in Argentina and Colombia in June and July, as invited guests of CONMEBOL. However, the postponement of the remainder of the second round of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualifying for the World Cup until June because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has led both teams to pull out. Qatar, who announced their withdrawal on Tuesday, are competing in the qualifying process to secure a place in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. They are top of Group E and will seal their spot if they win it. The Qatar Football Association has decided not to participate in the 2021 Copa America, which is scheduled to be hosted by Colombia and Argentina from June 11 to July 10 https://t.co/3NzeSGnF2N pic.twitter.com/Ylrf3108oB — Qatar Football Association (@QFA_EN) February 23, 2021 Australia are top of Group B and on course to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup and progress to the third round of the … [Read more...] about Australia, Qatar withdraw from 2021 Copa America
