Farmers’ protests: Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava reviews situation at borders

New Delhi: Commissioner of Police SN Shrivastava reviewed the law and order situation and arrangements at the Delhi borders in connection with the Farmers' Agitation. The CP took stock of the current situation and made plans to prevent further criminal activity on Saturday (February 13). Earlier in the day, farmers’ unions demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the violence that took place on January 26 during the tractor rally. Kuldeep Singh, a member of Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s (SKM) legal cell, said that a retired judge of the Supreme Court or High Court should probe the incidents to unravel the 'conspiracy' behind the January 26 violence and the alleged 'false cases' against the farmers. Several farmers that took part in the parade are missing and some farmer leaders pointed out that 16 attendees are still untraceable. Uttarakhand: PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for kin of deceased in glacier burst incident

A glacier broke off in Joshimath in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Sunday, causing a massive flood in the Dhauli Ganga river. Over 100 people working at the Rishi Ganga hydroelectric power project are missing and massive destruction is feared. ITBP and NDRF teams rushed to flood-hit areas in Uttarakhand to undertake relief and rescue work. Electric vehicle charging unit inaugurated

An electric vehicle charging station set up on the premises of Autokast Limited, a ferrous foundry manufacturing unit in the public sector at SN Puram, near Cherthala, was thrown open to the public.Industries Minister E. P. Jayarajan virtually inaugurated the charging station and an arc furnace for constructing bogies for railways at Autokast on Sunday.Speaking at the function, Mr. Jayarajan said that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had revived the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the State. “Through diversification and modernisation, Autokast has become one of the best PSUs in South India. Besides steps to modernise the unit, measures taken to reduce the production cost is equally appreciable,” the Minister said.Mr. Jayarajan said that the production had touched 400 tonnes in December 2020 and Autokast would achieve its target of 500 tonnes per month soon.Finance Minister T.M. Nitish cabinet gets 17 new members, Shahnawaz among those from BJP quota

(Adding detail) Patna, Feb 9 () The much awaited expansion of the Nitish Kumar cabinet in Bihar took place on Tuesday with the induction of 17 members, including Syed Shahnawaz Hussain , the high-profile Muslim face of the BJP which walked away with the lions share. The former union minister and party national spokesman, who got elected to the legislative council in a surprise move last month, was the first to be administered oath of office by Governor Phagu Chauhan. He was among nine inductees from the quota of the BJP which now has 20 members in the state cabinet. The Chief Ministers JD(U), which has suffered diminution in clout because of its poor performance in assembly polls, settled for eight and has been left with 12 members in the cabinet. Britain has been hit 82 flood warnings as treacherous icy conditions are expected tomorrow with a yellow weather warning in place as temperatures plunge to -15C tonight with eight inches of snow expected across highest areas. Temperatures are set to plummet to -6C overnight in England with the potential for the mercury to fall to between -10C and -15C in parts of Scotland. The Met Office have put a yellow weather warning in place across central England and Wales with icy stretches expected tonight and tomorrow morning. Meanwhile a startling 82 flood warnings are in place across England stretching from West Cornwall to the North East with immediate action required while 250 alerts are seen across the country where flooding is possible.
