WELLS, Maine (AP) — Truck drivers and mechanics for Shaw’s supermarkets are back on the job in New England as the Teamsters and company prepare to return to the bargaining table on Thursday. The drivers based at a warehouse in Wells, Maine, returned to work Wednesday, delivering grocery staples to more than 100 Shaw’s and Star Market grocery stores across the region, officials said. (CNN) Despite South Africa averaging more than 2,500 hours of sunshine a year , solar energy generates less than 1% of its electricity. By contrast, the UK produces 4% of its electricity from solar, with considerably less sunshine . South African supermarket Shoprite sees a missed opportunity. The chain is the continent's largest food retailer, with 140,000 employees and more than 2,000 stores across 14 countries. It wants renewable energy to fuel a quarter of its operations in the next five years. Shoprite already boasts a total of more than 480,000 square feet of solar panels on top of its 21 distribution centers and stores in South Africa and Namibia -- an area equivalent to around eight soccer fields. The Netherlands' top supermarket chain said it has ditched plans to ask staff to upload photos of themselves in their underwear to work out sizes for new uniforms. The Albert Heijn retailer had asked workers at one of its stores in the eastern city of Nijmegen to send the pictures using an "innovative mobile app". But it changed course after the Dutch newspaper NRC quoted stunned employees as complaining about the plan. "I saw a poster hanging in our canteen and I was shocked," 17-year-old Jochem de Haes, who works at the Nijmegen branch, told NRC. "My mother thought it was a joke. But the manager told us that if we do not do it, we can't be in the store any more because we do not have the right corporate clothing."
