SINGAPORE - A code of conduct that currently focuses on mobility device users will be expanded to cover pedestrians, and will include guidelines such as encouraging them to keep left on footpaths. In addition, users of e-scooters and power-assisted bicycles, also called electric bicycles, will soon need to go for a theory test before they are allowed to ride their devices in public. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) made these announcements on Wednesday (Dec 4) in accepting all the recommendations made by the Active Mobility Advisory Panel (AMAP). The panel submitted the recommendations, which seek to improve the safety of pedestrians and active mobility device users , on Sept 27. Other recommendations by the panel include compulsory third-party liability insurance for those who use e-scooters in their work, a minimum age requirement of 16 years to ride e-scooters on public paths , and banning the use of mobile phones when riding an active mobility device. BT chief Jansen gave board ultimatum over chairman’s future
Philip Jansen, the chief executive of BT Group, gave boardroom colleagues an ultimatum over his own future that led to the departure this week of the company's chairman, Jan du Plessis. Sky News has learnt that Mr Jansen told fellow directors of the telecoms giant over a period of several months that he had become frustrated with the speed at which BT was taking key strategic decisions. The BT chief, who joined in 2019, indicated that he was prepared to resign unless Mr du Plessis was replaced by a chairman who could accelerate the pace of change at the former state monopoly, according to several people close to the company. Mr du Plessis, one of the most experienced chairmen in corporate Britain, said on Monday that he would leave once a successor was identified. He has chaired companies including SAB Miller, the brewer, and British American Tobacco, and held non-executive directorships at Marks & Spencer and Lloyds Banking Group. Vietnamobile blames market struggle on unfair competition
Nearly 33,000 subscribers left Vietnamobile in the first three weeks last month, showcasing the difficulties the carrier faces in retaining customers. It received no request for subscriptions in the period, during which telecom giant Viettel welcomed over 24,600 new subscribers, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications. Vietnamobile, which aims to attract subscribers with a low-cost strategy, often receives complaints of low signal even in major cities, the small number of branches and poor customer service quality. In 2019, Vietnamobile and two other carriers accounted for just 4.61 percent of the market, while three state-owned giants Viettel, VNPT and Mobifone, claimed more than 95 percent, according to the ministry. Vietnamobile has blamed its difficulties on the limited spectrum it receives compared to the three main competitors, which it says limits it from providing the best services to customers. In 2019, the company had requested five … [Read more...] about Vietnamobile blames market struggle on unfair competition
