Archive: When Ferrari almost stopped Ford’s Le Mans steamroller

· March 6, 2021 ·

The 1967 Le Mans 24 Hours was billed – and is sometimes still remembered – as a Ford versus Ferrari battle. The fact Ford finished first and fourth, sandwiching two Ferraris, tends to support that. But in reality, it was a race that should always have been in Ford’s pocket, a sequence of events meaning that only the MkIV of Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt saved the American giant from an embarrassing defeat. Ferrari had responded to its humiliation at the hands of Ford at the French Classic in 1966 with one of its greatest sportscars: the 330 P4. It was stiffer and lighter than its predecessor and also appeared more reliable, having humbled Ford by leading a Ferrari 1-2-3 at the Daytona 24 Hours in February. Read Also: Ford v Ferrari: Why there needs to be a Le Mans 1966 sequel But Ford’s approach to Le Mans was on an entirely different scale. Having ended Ferrari’s run of six consecutive Le Mans successes in 1966, Ford entered four works MkIVs and three MkIIBs – … [Read more...] about Archive: When Ferrari almost stopped Ford’s Le Mans steamroller

Ford v Ferrari: Why there needs to be a Le Mans 1966 sequel

· September 13, 2020 ·

I really enjoyed James Mangold’s retelling of the Ford v Ferrari story , in which Christian Bale utterly nails the grouchy-but-brilliant Ken Miles and Matt Damon uses his considerable acting talent to counter his physical deficiency playing larger-than-life Texan Carroll Shelby. The tale ends, of course, (spoiler alert!) with Miles’s sad demise testing the J-car at Riverside California. Read Also: Opinion: Why the director of Ford v Ferrari took a major risk But endings are often just the beginning, especially in Hollywood. In his exclusive interview with our David Malsher, Bale thought Le Mans ’66 was “one of the best scripts I’ve ever read” when he first saw it in 2011. Well, Christian, although you’re out of the casting frame for the sequel for obvious reasons, how about this plotline… Christian Bale Photo by: 20th Century Fox Following Miles’s death, the J-Car project is scrapped in favor of a new GT40, the Mk IV. designed and built (unlike the ’66 … [Read more...] about Ford v Ferrari: Why there needs to be a Le Mans 1966 sequel

Pepe Le Pew Won’t Be Appearing In Warner Bros’ ‘Space Jam’ Sequel

· March 7, 2021 ·

EXCLUSIVE: He starred in the first Warner Bros. Space Jam movie back in 1996, however, Pepe Le Pew will not be showing up at all in the upcoming theatrical sequel Space Jam: A New Legacy on July 16. With the Looney Tunes French skunk besieged by controversy in the wake of New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow slamming that the cartoon character “added to rape culture,” Deadline has learned that a hybrid live-action animation scene between Jane the Virgin actress Greice Santo and Pepe Le Pew, shot back in June 2019 for Space Jam 2 was left on the cutting room floor. The live-action scene was filmed by the pic’s first director, Terence Nance. As we first reported in July 2019 , Nance left the production with Malcolm D. Lee taking over. Under the direction of Lee, Pepe Le Pew was eliminated from the sequel a while ago and never animated for the live-action footage which was shot. According to sources who saw a rough cut three months ago, they didn’t see any … [Read more...] about Pepe Le Pew Won’t Be Appearing In Warner Bros’ ‘Space Jam’ Sequel

Quang Ngai authorities relent on allowing boats from Da Nang to Ly Son Island

· March 8, 2021 ·

It is expected to boost tourism to the island, 30 kilometers off the Quang Ngai coast, since currently tourists from Da Nang have to make a 150-kilometer journey on land before getting taking a boat to reach Ly Son. The Quang Ngai Department of Transport had earlier opposed the proposal, saying Ly Son’s port is overloaded and the province’s tourism development would be affected if passengers could travel directly from Da Nang. The distance between Ly Son and Da Nang by sea is around 130 km. The proposal has also been approved by Da Nang and the Ministry of Transport. The island, famous for its beaches and garlic farms, gets around 200,000 visitors a year. … [Read more...] about Quang Ngai authorities relent on allowing boats from Da Nang to Ly Son Island

We cannot wait to see it race. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of one of the most exciting modern racing cars, the Glickenhaus 007 LMH . Built to take on the hypercar class at Le Mans, the Glickenhaus 007 has its work cut out for it as the small American firm aims to beat some of the largest automotive companies on earth. Glickenhaus is based in the United States in the small town of Sleepy Hollow, New York where it creates automotive titan slayers. Their most famous creation is the Baja Boot, which won its class for the second consecutive year at the Baja 1000 beating out the well-funded Ford Bronco. On the pavement, Glickenhaus is no stranger to success with nine Le Man 24 hours finishes and six first in class finishes at the 24 hours of the Nurburgring. Now Glickenhaus wants to go for an outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and take on the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, and Toyota in the new top-tier hypercar class with the Glickenhaus 007 LMH .
