The world waits with baited breath for more details about the Apple Watch, which should be revealed at a special event in San Francisco next Monday . But Tim Cook is just as anxious as we are to get this party started, and he teased some details in a trip to Germany. As reported by 9to5Mac, Cook visited the flagship Apple Store in Berlin , and confirmed to the employees there that the Apple Watch would go on sale in Germany during the month of April. Cook had already confirmed an April launch in the United States during a recent earnings call, so this might mean the watch will launch globally all at once, or that the United States will get it first, followed by Germany later in the month. Apple has been getting faster about rolling out products, and credited the “fastest rollout ever” of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus as part of its record-breaking success in Q1 2015 . 9to5Mac points out that Apple is already promoting the Apple Watch in China , so we wouldn’t be surprised if … [Read more...] about Tim Cook teases Apple Watch launch apps, and its debut in Germany

Germany’s Bayern Munich Wins World Cup Victory Over Tigres UANL
Germany’s Bayern Munich claimed a sixth trophy in 12 months with a 1-0 victory over the Tigres in the Club World Cup final. Benjamin Pavard’s second-half goal ensured the German side continues its remarkable run under Hansi Flick, adding to the Champions League , UEFA Super Cup and three domestic titles all won in the space of a year. An achievement only previously matched by Barcelona in 2009. As expected, Bayern Munich enjoyed far more attacking chances than Mexican side Tigres, the first CONCACAF side to reach the Club World Cup final, at the Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar. But it was only midway through the second half that the Bundesliga leader went ahead. Robert Lewandowski was initially deemed to be offside in the buildup to Pavard’s strike into an open net, but a video assistant referee review revealed that Carlos Salcedo’s heel had put the striker onside. The victory also means that Flick has won more trophies than he’s suffered defeats as Bayern … [Read more...] about Germany’s Bayern Munich Wins World Cup Victory Over Tigres UANL
Coronavirus: German immunologist suggests COVID vaccine priority reversal
Germany should prioritize people for coronavirus vaccines by the number of their social contacts rather than their age, immunology expert Michael Meyer-Hermann told local media on Sunday. Meyer-Hermann, from the Helmholtz center for Infection Research in the central German city of Braunschweig, told the Berlin-based Tagesspiegel newspaper that first giving vaccines to those with the most contacts "would have a much greater effect." He pointed out that the plan followed by Germany and most other countries of vaccinating the elderly and most vulnerable first had reduced the number of deaths, but had not had a significant impact on the pandemic as these people tended to have the fewest social contacts. What is Germany's coronavirus outlook? The immunologist also criticized Germany's plan to ease lockdown measures , especially as the more virulent strains of the virus were increasingly spreading throughout the country. He predicted that case numbers would "explode" as they … [Read more...] about Coronavirus: German immunologist suggests COVID vaccine priority reversal
China’s CGTN returns to German TV screens
The Chinese state-run TV news channel CGTN returned to the Vodafone cable network in Germany, a spokesperson for the channel confirmed on Saturday. The news came almost a month after a legal dispute in the UK left the channel without permission to broadcast onto German television screens . CGTN's permission to broadcast in Germany had been granted by its license in the UK under a European license-sharing initiative, but this license was revoked by the British regulator Ofcom . On Wednesday, French media regulator CSA said the channel did in fact have permission to broadcast across Europe. "After receiving the confirmation letter from the French media regulator stating that CGTN's right to broadcast in Europe falls under its jurisdiction, Vodafone Germany resumed distributing CGTN and its Documentary channel at approximately 7 a.m. on March 5 through its cable service," the CGTN statement said. They Called Them “The Children of Shame”
Many were later persecuted by the Nazis. Around 100,000 French troops were sent to occupy Germany's Rhineland region in 1920. About 20,000 of these soldiers came from the French colonies of Tunisia, Morocco, French Indochina, and Senegal. The African troops became targets of a harassment campaign called "Die Schwarze Schmach," or "The Black Disgrace." German political parties, the media, and many organizations tried to discredit French occupation policies by falsely claiming that black French soldiers were systematically raping German women and children. The presence of black, North African, and Asian troops in Germany was depicted as a threat to the "German race" and the future of European civilization. Between 1919 and 1928, several hundred mixed-race children were born in Germany's Rhineland region -- the product of liaisons between local women and French occupation troops. These children, their mothers, and extended families were socially ostracized from the very … [Read more...] about They Called Them “The Children of Shame”
