ZURICH: Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski was named The Best FIFA Men's Player 2020 on Thursday (Dec 17), beating off competition from last year's winner Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Lewandowski, who won the German league and cup double as well as the Champions League with Bayern, finished as top scorer in all three competitions and won the award for the first time. The 32-year-old also led Poland to Euro 2020 qualification and was named the 2019-20 UEFA Men's Player of the Year in October. "To win such an award and share this title with (previous winners) Messi and Ronaldo, is unbelievable and means so much to me," Lewandowski said. "I am very proud and happy. This is a great day for me, and also for my club and colleagues. "This award also belongs to my colleagues, the coach and Bayern in general. It is an incredible feeling, a lot of emotions." An emotional and teary Teoh Ze Tong emerged winner of Star Search 2019 on Sunday (Nov 3) at the Mediacorp Theatre, beating out 11 other finalists to clinch the title. In second and third places are Herman Keh and Ye Jia Yun respectively, while Vanessa Ho took home the Samsung Galaxy: Breakthrough Talent Award. Teoh, who still looked visibly surprised at the post-show press conference, said: "I'm not used to so many cameras. It feels very complicated. I didn’t expect to win. Everyone did very well." Asked if he would quit his job, the 26-year-old answered in the affirmative. "I will be joining Mediacorp for sure," he said. "My manager (from my current job) is here and he saw my win." WOLVERHAMPTON: Wolverhampton Wanderers' Pedro Neto struck a stoppage-time winner as they came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League on Tuesday (Dec 15). Frank Lampard's visiting side had the better of the first half at Molineux and centre-half Kurt Zouma powered a header against the bar just before the break. In-form French forward Olivier Giroud then fired Chelsea ahead in the 49th minute, meeting a Ben Chilwell cross with a superb angled volley at the near post that goalkeeper Rui Patricio was unable to stop cross the line. But Wolves drew level in the 66th minute when Daniel Podence cleverly created space for himself in the box and then drove a slightly deflected shot past keeper Edouard Mendy. DOHA: Junior Negrao scored twice as South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai came from a goal behind to win the Asian Champions League final with a 2-1 victory over Persepolis of Iran in Doha on Saturday. A pair of VAR-awarded penalties swung the game in Ulsan’s favour either side of halftime after Mehdi Abdi gave Persepolis the lead against the run of play in the 45th minute. Junior’s initial spot kick in first-half added time was saved by Hamed Lak before the Brazilian netted the rebound and he made no mistake with his second effort 10 minutes after the break to give Ulsan their first Asian title since 2012. Ulsan dictated play for most of the first period without creating much in the way of clear-cut chances.
