REUTERS: Joe Root will return to England's ODI team for the opening clash of the three-match series against Australia at Old Trafford on Friday with a ringing endorsement from his skipper Eoin Morgan. Test captain Root was left out of the T20 series which England won 2-1, but will be back in his familiar number three slot for the 50-over world champions. "Joe is one of the best players in the world and been in great form at Yorkshire so hopefully he can take that form into this series," Morgan, who will also return having missed the T20 defeat by Australia on Tuesday, told a news conference. "Throughout the World Cup he showed how valuable a player he is to us. He is under-sold a lot of the time in white ball cricket, extremely versatile in what he does. His dot ball percentage is unbelievably low, his average is high, his strike rate high. From a number three that's all you can ask." While England's ODI squad almost picks itself, such is the tried-and-trusted formula that is … [Read more...] about Root underrated in white ball game, says Morgan

Cricket: England win second ODI after dramatic Australia collapse
MANCHESTER: England won the second ODI by 24 runs to level their three-match series against Australia after the visitors, chasing a modest target of 232, suffered a dramatic collapse on Sunday (Sep 13). Australia appeared to be cruising as they reached 144 for two thanks to a 107-run third-wicket partnership from captain Aaron Finch (73) and Marnus Labuschagne (48) before capitulating to 207 all out. Chris Woakes triggered the collapse when he had Labuschagne lbw, beginning a run which saw Australian lose three wickets for one run in eleven deliveries. "That's as well as we've bowled for a while," said England captain Eoin Morgan. "We took advantage of conditions, the ball reverse swung a little bit, went up and down. Our group of four seamers were outstanding." England also got themselves off the hook during their own innings. Having won the toss and chosen to bat, they ambled along at a pedestrian pace with Joe Root needing 73 balls for his 39. They looked to be in real … [Read more...] about Cricket: England win second ODI after dramatic Australia collapse
Global banks left on the sidelines in Brazil’s IPO boom
SAO PAULO: The days of marquee global investment banks being shoo-ins for stock market listings could be coming to an end, in Brazil at least. The Brazilian market for initial public offerings is booming this year despite the pandemic. Yet among the five banks leading managers' rankings in terms of deal volumes, four are domestic, according to Refinitiv data: Itau Unibanco Holding SA , Banco Bradesco SA , XP Inc and Banco BTG Pactual SA . The other is Bank of America . That's a marked reversal from the same period last year, when four of the top five were major global players - Bank of America, Credit Suisse , Citi and HSBC - with just one Brazilian outfit, Banco do Brasil . Still, industry experts caution that, despite the shifting trends in 2020, it is too early to call a structural change in a market for IPOs that has been dominated by global banks for years. Key factors behind the shift, according to industry experts, include the increasing importance of reaching … [Read more...] about Global banks left on the sidelines in Brazil’s IPO boom

Cricket: Australia ease to victory over England in first ODI
MANCHESTER: A century stand between Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell and four wickets for spinner Adam Zampa helped Australia down world champions England by 19 runs in the opening clash of the three-match ODI series at Old Trafford on Friday (Sep 11). Australia recovered from a shaky start to score 294 for nine in their 50 overs and while Sam Billings struck an impressive century, the hosts were always behind the game. England put the visitors in and had them reeling on 123 for five but Marsh (73) Maxwell (77) helped Australia rebuild on their way to a formidable total. After slumping to 57-4 in reply and falling way behind the required run rate it looked bleak for England but Jonny Bairstow and Billings shared a century stand for the fifth wicket to edge Eoin Morgan's side back into contention. Bairstow was caught slogging off spinner Adam Zampa and when Moeen Ali became Josh Hazelwood's third wicket soon after Australia could breathe a little easier. An inspired Zampa … [Read more...] about Cricket: Australia ease to victory over England in first ODI
