SINGAPORE: A paedophile who was previously jailed for sexually abusing his four-year-old daughter reoffended within two years of release, forcing his girlfriend's eight-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son to simulate sexual intercourse with each other. After gaining the trust of their mother, the man took the children to hotels for regular "sleepovers" where he forced them to carry out sex acts with each other so he could film child pornography. For his list of crimes, the 47-year-old man was sentenced on Friday to 24 years' jail and 24 strokes of the cane. He cannot be named due to gag orders imposed by the court to protect the victims' identities. The court heard that the man met the victims' mother at work, where she was a cleaner and he was her supervisor. He began having an affair with her, and she later introduced her children to him. Shortly after this, he sought her permission for them to sleep over with him at Seng Wah Hotel in Geylang, pretending that he wanted … [Read more...] about Paedophile previously jailed for abusing daughter gets jail and caning for sexually abusing girlfriend’s children

What happened when a teenager’s dad turned off the Internet mid-pandemic
The pandemic tension in my house reached its peak this summer the night my dad switched off the Wi-Fi. He claimed that “You spend too much time on your phones and not enough time with the family! I never had the Internet when I was your age; we used to play on the streets.” With all due respect, when he was my age – 16 – it was the 1980s, and the world was not in the middle of a pandemic. My parents are doctors who have both had the virus and are well aware of the impact of this pandemic. Dad is just saying what many parents say because they are unsettled by how much time my generation spends online. But teenagers are wired to be social, and right now the Internet is one of the few places we can safely socialise. Later that evening I sneaked downstairs with my 8-year-old brother to switch the router back on. But it was being heavily guarded – it was in our dad’s study, where he was working. The next day I awoke early and immediately checked to see if we were back online. No, we … [Read more...] about What happened when a teenager’s dad turned off the Internet mid-pandemic
Meghan Markle latest – Prince Harry is ‘barely recognisable’ & Meghan ‘always planned on leaving’, says friend of Diana
A ROYAL author and close friend of Princess Diana claims Prince Harry is "barely recognisable” and that Meghan Markle “always planned to leave the Royal Family”. Robert Jobson, who knew the late princess “well”, appeared on True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat, and claimed that the Duchess of Sussex never planned on staying in the royal family. He said: “Harry’s barely recognisable and I think she’s totally disingenuous. “I think she had a plan from the outset that she wasn't going to stick with it [The Royal Family] and it didn't take long, before... all that thanking the royal family. “The royal family would have done their best to have helped her and they would have tried.” Meanwhile former Buckingham Palace press officer Dickie Arbiter discussed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 's statement confirming they were not returning as senior members of the Royal Family . Last week, a statement released by the Palace said it is “not possible to continue with the … [Read more...] about Meghan Markle latest – Prince Harry is ‘barely recognisable’ & Meghan ‘always planned on leaving’, says friend of Diana
Cooped up in small homes and lacking awareness, Jakarta’s urban poor find it tough amid partial lockdown
JAKARTA: Siti Patonah and her third-grader daughter, who live in a slum in South Jakarta, spend most of their time crouching together in front of her handphone these days. With schools closed since Mar 16 to curb the spread of COVID-19, her daughter’s teachers have been sending videos to the parents for the students to watch. Homework, usually some written tasks, has to be completed, and photos of the completed sheets are then sent back to the teachers for marking. “I have to accompany my child every day because I need to explain the lessons and homework to her. “It is very hard because I am not a teacher. I have to make sure that my child understands, with my own method, that’s the problem,” Patonah, 44, told CNA. She accesses all the materials on her handphone, and occasionally browses the Internet for additional information. While network connection is not an issue, she said her usual 3GB monthly plan is simply not enough and she has to fork out money to buy … [Read more...] about Cooped up in small homes and lacking awareness, Jakarta’s urban poor find it tough amid partial lockdown
