HCMC Transport Department proposes stopping bus advertising The Saigon Times Buses on a street in HCMC display advertisements. The HCMC Department of Transport has proposed stopping bus advertising - PHOTO: VNA HCMC - The HCMC Department of Transport has proposed that the city stop bus advertising due to low demand. Since 2017, only one business won the bid for the right to advertise on buses in the city. The three-year package worth VND162 billion has just expired. All other tenders for bus advertising in the city failed to attract businesses although the Transport Department has lowered the charges, relaxed the requirements and offered flexible payment options. According to the head of an advertising company, the demand for outdoor advertising, including bus advertising, in the city was high 10 years ago, but has dropped drastically as clients are switching to online advertising. Besides this, many buses in HCMC have become old and worn out, while the prices of … [Read more...] about HCMC Transport Department proposes stopping bus advertising

Why Toronto didn’t defund police in 2020 (nor all those other times)
Councillor Josh Matlow says he knew his proposed 10 per cent cut to Toronto police would face an uphill battle because of the budget’s “untouchable” status. “It’s the single largest line item in the city’s operating budget and almost every year it goes up,” he said this past week, almost six months after his motion lost a council vote eight to 16 . He remains convinced it was the right thing to do. The move brought greater transparency to the police budget while responding to “clear demands” to reallocate police funds into much-needed community supports — to “prevent crime, rather than just trying to arrest people who commit it,” he says. This year, police services across North American came under unprecedented pressure to change following George Floyd’s death in police custody in Minneapolis. Anti-racism rallies and defunding protests have led some cities, such as Calgary, to look at shifting some police money to social service agencies — but always with pushback. Change … [Read more...] about Why Toronto didn’t defund police in 2020 (nor all those other times)

Photograph: BCCI India trounced England by an innings and 25 runs on the third day of the fourth Test to complete a 3-1 series victory on Saturday, securing their place in the June's World Test Championships final against New Zealand. Resuming the day at 294 for seven in reply to England's first innings total of 205, the hosts put on board 365 for a big 160-run lead. Washington Sundar stayed unbeaten on 96 while Axar Patel scored 43. For England, the script did not change much as their batsmen yet again found it tough to negotiate the challenge posed by the Indian spinners. Dan Lawrence (50) though showed the required temperament to counter the spinners. Once their 44-run stand was broken, India did not take long to wrap up the match and the series. Why would Carrie Symonds pay Lulu’s not-so-Lytle bills when John Lewis can mirror her designs?
Carrie Symonds 's Lulu Lytle-inspired makeover has caused uproar, but the 32-year-old apparently saw the lavish Downing Street overhaul as necessary to rid the Prime Minister's residence of the 'John Lewis nightmare' left behind by former occupant Theresa May , according to Tatler. It came as a painful blow to fans of Britain's favourite department store — and an unfounded one. For while the 157-year-old company may have a reputation for being safe and suburban, look closer and it offers plenty of chic, timeless pieces. Boris Johnson's girlfriend Carrie Symonds's Lulu Lytle-inspired makeover of Downing Street has caused uproar There are £2,000 sofas (a snip compared with the £20,000 three-seaters from Lytle's company Soane Britain), lamps for under £20 (not £12,000) and wallpaper for £9 a roll (not £500).
