Faced with spin test, Rahane points to lack of cricket at home

· February 2, 2021 ·

ENGLAND TOUR OF INDIA, 2021 by Kaushik Rangarajan • Last updated on Share Tweet "We haven't played so many games in India the last three years" © BCCI Between the two Test Ahmedabad Test matches, many cricketers, past and present, have delved deep into the art of batting on a raging turner. In view of the 21 of the 30 dismissals that were Bowled or LBW in the third Test , a common counsel offered was that batsmen guard against the straighter delivery and were a ball to spin past the outside edge, then so be it. "We know, when you play on spinning tracks, you have to play the line and don't worry about spin," Ajinkya Rahane agreed. However, given he was part of the first batch of players to face the pink SG ball on a spinning track, Rahane threw in an already-stated caveat . "The pink ball, it was very different to the red ball. We have hardly played with the pink ball. We need to play more to get a hang of it. Pink ball … [Read more...] about Faced with spin test, Rahane points to lack of cricket at home

Cricket kind of gets forgotten in IPL; PSL, LPL more rewarding: Steyn

· February 2, 2021 ·

IPL VS OTHER T20 LEAGUES by Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on Share Tweet "When you come to the PSL or the LPL, there's an importance on the cricket." © BCCI South African speedster Dale Steyn has said that the financial aspect of the Indian Premier League, the world's most lucrative T20 league, steers the focus off of cricket and he finds the likes of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Lankan Premier League (LPL) "slightly more rewarding". Steyn, who is currently plying his trade for the Quetta Gladiators franchise in the PSL, told Cricket Pakistan that the duration of the IPL was also a factor in him opting out of this season as he wanted some more time to himself. "I wanted to take a bit more time off. I found that playing in those other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player," Steyn said. "I think when you go to the IPL there are such big squads and so many big names and so much emphasis on the amount … [Read more...] about Cricket kind of gets forgotten in IPL; PSL, LPL more rewarding: Steyn

Who hits the biggest ball of all? Devon Conway ranks the Black Caps, and Finn Allen

· March 1, 2021 ·

NZ Cricket Firebirds' batting sensation Finn Allen blasts equal quickest century in New Zealand List A history. After Finn Allen gave another jolting reminder of his hitting power, his Firebirds opening partner believes the 21-year-old can make a seamless transition to international cricket - potentially later this month. But Devon Conway won’t go so far as to rank the best ball strikers in New Zealand cricket, diplomatically saying Allen, Martin Guptill and Jimmy Neesham could each claim that title on a given day. As Conway, Guptill and Neesham assembled in Wellington on Sunday with their Black Caps team-mates ahead of Wednesday’s Twenty20 game three against Australia at a crowd-free Sky Stadium, Allen was equalling records down the road at the Basin Reserve . Topscorer for the T20 Super Smash champions with 512 runs at a strike rate of 194, Allen matched Peter Fulton’s record for fastest list-A century in New Zealand (off 50 balls). BCCI, ICC close to agreeing on number of events for next FTP cycle

· February 2, 2021 ·

FTP 2023-2031 by Vijay Tagore • Last updated on Share Tweet BCCI have been in favour of six ICC events in the next eight-year FTP cycle © Getty After a difference of opinion on the particulars of the next Future Tours Programme (FTP) from 2023-2031, it looks like the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are finally on the same page. Cricbuzz learns there's a fair understanding within the BCCI that the ICC have agreed to its stand and decided to organize only six world tournaments in the next cycle, and do away with the process of bidding to stage those global events. Theoretically, eight events in the next cycle were approved, in principle, by the ICC executive board in October 2019 but there would be little clarity around it even within the member boards, with the FTP calendar neither finalized nor approved. The BCCI's insistence on six world events in the next cycle … [Read more...] about BCCI, ICC close to agreeing on number of events for next FTP cycle

Efrain Álvarez left off US Olympic soccer training roster

· March 1, 2021 ·

NEW YORK - LA Galaxy midfielder Efrain Álvarez was left off the United States 31-man training roster ahead of Olympic qualifying for North and Central America and the Caribbean after being included by both the Americans and Mexico on preliminary squads. In addition, three Atlanta players on the roster are not being released by the team for the camp: defenders George Bello and Miles Robinson, and forward Brooks Lennon, leaving their availability for the tournament unlikely. U.S. coach Jason Kreis said Monday that Álvarez was not ready to make a national team choice. Kreis called it ”a very, very difficult and personal decision.“ “He’s decided that he wasn’t ready to commit to one team or another, which puts us in a very hopeful position,“ Kreis said. “We would like him to be part of the U.S. men’s national teams programs.” Now 18, Álvarez played for the U.S. at an under-15 tournament in 2016, then switched to Mexico and played for El Tri at the 2019 Under-17 World Cup. He … [Read more...] about Efrain Álvarez left off US Olympic soccer training roster
