· February 26, 2021 ·

A couple and their 13 children are facing homelessness if a house big enough for them doesn’t become available in the next nine weeks. Deborah and Craig Douglas have until the end of April to move out of their home in Dumfries after their landlady decided to sell up. Despite applying for a number of private lets and pleading with housing associations, the family still haven’t found anywhere big enough for their brood. She said: “We’ve been in our current home for nearly five years but the landlady told us in November 2019 she was selling. “I immediately went to the council’s homeless department but 15 months down the line, they still haven’t found anywhere for us to go. “We’ve now got just nine weeks to find somewhere or we’ll be out in the street. “It’s only thanks to our fantastic landlady that we’re not already homeless but she can’t wait much longer. “My husband … [Read more...] about Family of 15 face homelessness if house big enough for them all can’t be found in time

Exclusive: Anthony Mackie on why he was hesitant about Falcon and the Winter Soldier

· February 24, 2021 ·

Falcon and the Winter Soldier is about to soar onto screens, but Anthony Mackie wasn't always convinced that a Marvel series about his character and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes would be a good idea. In fact, the actor took some convincing to reprise his role of Sam Wilson for the Disney Plus spin-off. "To be honest, I’ve had trepidation from the beginning. I was really afraid of the idea," the actor tells GamesRadar+’s sister publication SFX Magazine in the new issue. " Working on so many Marvel projects, and seeing the end result and the effect that they have on people, I was afraid that the quality of the production would be taken down for television. I was afraid that you can’t do things on television that you can do in theatres. "Seeing people’s reactions to Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame in the theatres, and hearing the connection that the audience members have with these characters... that’s every actor’s dream, to affect an audience and expose them to a … [Read more...] about Exclusive: Anthony Mackie on why he was hesitant about Falcon and the Winter Soldier

· February 26, 2021 ·

Ecuador is due to have its second round of elections in April. Although the progressive candidate, Andrés Arauz, won by a large margin, he did not win by enough to avoid a runoff. However, the parliamentary results via the National Assembly are final, with the progressive candidates winning more seats than any other. The results of the presidential and parliamentary elections reflect an overall rejection of neo-liberalism by the Ecuadorian population at large. Fidel Narvaez is the former Counsel and former first secretary to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. Narvaez explains that attempts to undermine Arauz and the "Citizens' Revolution" which backs him, have only increased since the election, with clear evidence of foreign interference from countries like the US and Colombia, with the media also playing their part. Narvaez is a supporter of the Citizens' Revolution; Arauz is seen as someone who would break from the policies of President Lenin Moreno and return to the policies … [Read more...] about Ecuador’s Elections Are Being Undermined by Foreign and Domestic Interference, Ex-Diplomat Explains
