Ice-T Explains Why He Remade ’99 Problems’ and Brought Back Body Count

· June 12, 2014 ·

“When ‘Cop Killer’ hit, I got blackballed for a minute,” Ice-T says about his most infamous song. “People didn’t wanna fuck with me. Everybody was nervous.” With everyone from the Los Angeles Police Commission to the president issuing statements against the track, the scrutiny around the record prompted Ice-T to leave Warner, taking Body Count with him. Now, after an eight-year gap between records, the metal band has returned with its fifth LP, Manslaughter and will be touring this summer as part of the Mayhem Festival, playing a new selection of heavy riffs that split the difference between Black Sabbath and Rage Against the Machine. The 20 Best Metal Albums of 2013 Although Manslaughter doesn’t contain anything as incendiary as “Cop Killer,” it does feature a remake of the 1993 Ice-T song “99 Problems” that Jay Z famously repurposed for a track of his own, and a challenge to pop-rap artists called “Pop Bubble.” When Rolling Stone catches up with him to talk about … [Read more...] about Ice-T Explains Why He Remade ’99 Problems’ and Brought Back Body Count

Dancing On Ice stars slam ‘curse’ claims as disaster-struck show is cut short

· February 26, 2021 ·

After news of Dancing On Ice being cut short broke out, the hit ITV series was instantly branded "cursed" and "disastrous" by some viewers. However stars who are competing on the hit skating show this year hit back at the claims - despite the countless obstacles bosses were forced to face this year. Appearing on This Morning alongside their professional partners, Faye Brooks, 33, and Rebekah Vardy, 39, opened up about this year's eventful series. Chatting to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, Faye explained how difficult it was to have a change of partner halfway through the series after Hamish Gaman, 37, injured his finger. Now being partnered up with Matt Evers, Faye revealed admitted that the skating competition is "the most dangerous show on television". "We signed up for this - we know this is the most dangerous show on television," she said. "We've got to make sure we take care of ourselves, trust our partner, and keep entertaining on the show every week." … [Read more...] about Dancing On Ice stars slam ‘curse’ claims as disaster-struck show is cut short

Bitter cold and ice storms forecast for north, central United States

· February 10, 2021 ·

NEW YORK: A weather system already punishing the midwestern United States with the coldest temperatures of the winter was forecast to spin to the south and West on Wednesday (Feb 10), prompting ice storm warnings and likely hazardous travel conditions. The cell of arctic high pressure sitting over Canada that has driven temperatures some 20 or 30 degrees below normal in the U.S. Midwest and northern plains will bring even rougher weather as it moves into central and southern states, the National Weather Service said. "We have very cold air across Canada that will continue to funnel down into the central portion of the United States for the next several days," said meteorologist Lara Pagano of the weather service. "This is actually going to be a prolonged period of well below normal temperatures." Wind chill advisories have already been issued for northern U.S. states, including Montana and North Dakota. As temperatures drop further south and mix with moist air streaming … [Read more...] about Bitter cold and ice storms forecast for north, central United States

Eiffel Tower needs blowtorch for ice as snow blankets Europe

· February 10, 2021 ·

PARIS: Workers at the Eiffel Tower used a blowtorch to melt the ice collecting on its surfaces and snow was blocking roads and halting trains and school buses on Wednesday (Feb 10) across northern France. Amid a European cold snap, areas in Normandy and Brittany unused to such icy conditions were closing highways for lack of snow-clearing equipment. In parts of the Paris region, local authorities halted school buses and urged parents to keep their children at home. Snow blanketed the French capital and froze the Eiffel Tower. The monument's Twitter account said: “When negative temperatures return, my floors get partially covered with ice! To get rid of it, we need to use a blowtorch because ice-control salt is too corrosive for the metal.” The Eiffel Tower has been closed to the public for months because of COVID-19 restrictions. Four die in Sweden after falling through ice on lake

· February 26, 2021 ·

STOCKHOLM: Four people were killed when they fell through the ice on a lake in southern Sweden on Thursday (Feb 25), police said, as the country experiences a spell of unseasonably mild weather. Four men aged between 65 and 75 were found in a hole in the ice on Savsjo lake, south of the town of Jonkoping, and could not be resuscitated after being pulled out of the water, a local police spokesperson told AFP. The exact circumstances of the incident were yet to be determined, she said. Accidents caused by people walking across unstable ice are common in Sweden, but it is rare for the death toll to be so high. After several weeks of intense cold throughout most of the country, which drew walkers to frozen lakes and estuaries, parts of Sweden have seen a rapid hike in temperature over the past few days. A national heat record for February was set on Thursday, according to the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. A temperature of 16.8 degrees Celsius was … [Read more...] about Four die in Sweden after falling through ice on lake
