Freeform Unveils First-Look At Jessica Biel-Produced Series ‘Cruel Summer’ – TCA
Freeform has released a first look at the upcoming series, Cruel Summer , which is set to debut on April 20. It takes place over three years in 90s and follows two young women: Kate Wallis, the popular girl with a charmed life who one day goes missing, and Jeanette Turner, the nerdy wannabe who is accused of being connected to Kate’s disappearance. All signs point to Jeanette’s guilt, but is Kate really who she seems to be? Set over three summers and told through shifting points of view, the series challenges perception and follows how one girl can go from being a sweet outlier to the most despised person in America. Jessica Biel serves as an executive producer on the show. “This is a project that I would have wanted to do if I was their age,” said Biel during today’s TCA presentation. “I would have loved to play one of these characters.” Related Story 'Everything's Gonna Be Okay': Richard Kind & Maria Bamford To Recur In Season 2 of Freeform Series; … [Read more...] about Freeform Unveils First-Look At Jessica Biel-Produced Series ‘Cruel Summer’ – TCA
Feel stuck in life as you get older? It might be your ego, says Tan Kheng Hua
Tan Kheng Hua – the actress who stole a scene in Crazy Rich Asians from Michelle Yeoh with just a wordless stare that would shrink the largest of testicles – was sitting on my sofa, looking fabulous in her T-shirt and jeans, snacking on murukku. And it occurred to me, quite simply: I want what she’s having. Not the murukku, mind you (I had another tub squirrelled away for eating my emotions), but the way she’s growing older… and feeling happy about it. “At 40, in terms of my career, I felt jaded, old… I remember, I just felt like, oh gosh, I really needed to change,” said Kheng, in an unfiltered conversation for our CNA Lifestyle podcast series House Party For 2. “I just felt… stuck .” LISTEN: House Party For 2: Tan Kheng Hua is alone in Los Angeles and thinking a lot about her death It’s a sentiment many of us who are no longer in our 20s (or 30s) can relate to. It’s a growing realisation that you’re so far from where you wanted to find yourself; that perhaps you’re … [Read more...] about Feel stuck in life as you get older? More than nose jobs and facelifts: The plastic surgeon who saves body parts
Warning: This article contains graphic photographs of surgical procedures. SINGAPORE: Dr Pek Chong Han has performed surgery on bacteria-infested feet and cancer-ridden tongues. But few of his patients, on introduction, are aware of why they must see him. The mention of plastic surgery brings to mind procedures like breast augmentation and eye lifts. So he has to take a few moments to explain: Yes, he is a plastic surgeon. No, he is not here just to beautify them. “It’s about making you recover faster ... or recover what you’ve lost to whatever disease,” said the 36-year-old, who has been with Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) for three years. While he does some cosmetic procedures, most of his work at the government hospital is reconstructive surgery. That means literally patching “holes” and restoring function to defective body parts. In fact, the full name of the speciality is Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. The term “plastic”, he explained, comes from … [Read more...] about More than nose jobs and facelifts: The plastic surgeon who saves body parts
Going all out into The Fray
American rock band The Fray's frontman Isaac Slade has fond memories of seeing Singapore on two wheels. When the band last performed here in November last year, he took along his bicycle to use when he had some time off touring. "We were out on that island with all the casinos, Sentosa, so I rode my bike back onto the mainland and rode all over downtown, uptown, up the hills, got a coffee, went to the Botanic Gardens," recalls Slade, 32. "It was incredible, such a good place to ride." Sadly, he will not be doing that again when the band come back for a show here tomorrow. A burglar broke into his house recently and carted off his beloved Cannondale road bicycle. "I got robbed last week," the singer, who is married with no children, says over the telephone from his home in Colorado. "They broke into my house and the only thing they stole was my bike. That was so bad." The Fray, best known for their 2006 global hit and piano-rock ballad How To Save A Life, will perform at the … [Read more...] about Going all out into The Fray
