Former lead strategist for Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign James Carville said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that Republican philosophy was “God must surely want wealthy white people to be first in line to get the vaccine.” Reacting to reports that seniors in a wealthy enclave in Key Largo received vaccinations in mid-January, Carville said, “The DeSantis thing favoring wealthy people getting the vaccine, no one’s surprised. They want the tax code to favor wealthy people. They want the entire system to be rigged in favor of wealthy people. So why wouldn’t someone try to rig the vaccine to be in favor of wealthy people? It is totally consistent with modern Republican philosophy that wealthy people get to cut in line because the fact that they are wealthy makes them virtuous themselves. That’s even a whole branch, the fact that you are wealthy means that God loves you, and God must surely want wealthy white people to be first in line to get the vaccine. I mean, it makes … [Read more...] about Carville: Republicans Believe God Wants ‘Wealthy White People to Be First in Line to Get the Vaccine’

Apophis Asteroid: How to Watch Live Images As ‘God of Chaos’ Flies By
An asteroid nicknamed the "God of Chaos" is due to pass over the Earth on Friday, March 5, and astronomers are offering the chance to watch it live. The Europe-based Virtual Telescope Project will host a live feed online, in which viewers will be able to see telescope images of the asteroid. The feed is due to start on March 6 at 00:00 UTC, or 19:00 EST. The asteroid, also called Apophis, will make its close approach at 8:15 p.m. EST on Friday, according to NASA 's CNEOS asteroid-tracking database. It is going to pass by the Earth at a distance of nearly 10.5 million miles—roughly 44 times the distance between the Earth and the moon—based on NASA's predictions as of March 3. Gianluca Masi, director of the Virtual Telescope Project, told Newsweek : "We will bring to our viewers the same they would [see] live at the observatory, as we will be sharing the entire imaging procedure with them. We will also animate some images taken back-to-back, to make the motion more … [Read more...] about Apophis Asteroid: How to Watch Live Images As ‘God of Chaos’ Flies By
God of Chaos Asteroid to Pass Earth This Week Before 2029’s Close Approach
The asteroid Apophis is due to make a close approach to Earth this week, and scientists are preparing to observe the flyby. The space rock, thought to be between 310 and 680 meters (1,017 ft to 2,230 ft) in diameter, is going to coast past the Earth at 8:15 p.m. ET on March 5. It will pass at a distance of around 10,225,000 miles—equivalent to around 43 times the distance from the Earth to the moon. The distance may seem large, but it is small in astronomical terms. Apophis is deemed potentially hazardous because of its size and occasional proximity to our planet. One group of scientists is attempting to use this week's flyby as practice for a potential collision with Earth in the future. Vishnu Reddy, a planetary defense expert at the University of Arizona, is helping to coordinate the scientists via the International Asteroid Warning Network (IAWN). The group has been treating Apophis as though it were a new object they only recently discovered, and have been meeting … [Read more...] about God of Chaos Asteroid to Pass Earth This Week Before 2029’s Close Approach
Vicar Of Dibley fans reveal Dawn French’s funniest joke – and Alice didn’t get it
The Vicar Of Dibley is one of the UK's best-loved sitcoms - with Dawn French becoming a national treasure after her portrayal of Reverend Geraldine Granger. The reverend would close almost every episode by sharing an often rude joke with the church verger Alice, one of the many quirky characters in the village, who would usually fail to understand the punchline. A specially-commissioned study has now asked people to rank the jokes according to their funniness - with fans saying "no, no, no, no, no" to the ones they didn't like, and "yes!" to the ones they did. So, in reverse order, here were the top five: Santa Claus visits the doctor In fifth place was a Christmas-themed joke which 46% of respondents thought was amusing. It went: "Santa Claus goes to the doctor and says 'Doctor, I think I've got a mince pie stuck up my bottom.' "The doctor looks and says 'Oh dear, you do indeed have a mince pie stuck up your bottom. But you're in luck - I've got some cream for that.'" … [Read more...] about Vicar Of Dibley fans reveal Dawn French’s funniest joke – and Alice didn’t get it
New Catholic Archbishop meets political and religious leaders
SINGAPORE: The newly-ordained head of the Catholic Church, Coadjutor Archbishop William Goh, welcomed political and religious leaders at a reception at the Catholic Spirituality Centre in Upper Serangoon Road on Saturday morning. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife were among the guests which include Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, Members of Parliament, and members of the Inter-Religious Organisation. The new Archbishop told the 300-strong audience at the reception that the Catholic Church in Singapore is committed to dialogue and maintaining religious harmony. Inter-religious dialogue, he added, can be a way to deal with the threat of secularism. Coadjutor Archbishop Goh said: "The greatest concern of the church today is simply this - that the world is becoming too secularised. In itself it is not wrong. It is when secularisation becomes secularism - that is to say anti-church and anti-religion. And so without religion, without faith in the absolute, because God is … [Read more...] about New Catholic Archbishop meets political and religious leaders
