REUTERS: The pace of U.S. auto sales slowed in November, data from analytics firm Wards Intelligence showed on Tuesday, amid a spurt in coronavirus infections. Auto sales in the United States managed to bounce back since hitting a pandemic-fueled bottom in April, leading major automakers to ramp up production and boost weak inventories at dealerships. However, rising COVID-19 cases in the U.S. states have increased the uncertainty over a speedy rebound. The seasonally adjusted annualized sales pace for light vehicles dropped to 15.55 million units in November, from 16.21 million units in October and 17.09 million units in the year-ago period, according to Wards Intelligence. SHANGHAI: Ford Motor Co's Chinese ventures reported higher vehicle sales for October from a year earlier, as strong demand for sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) and vans continued to support its recovery in the world's biggest auto market. The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker's Chongqing-based venture with Changan said on Thursday it sold 26,305 vehicles last month, a 43per cent jump year-on-year. Jiangling Motors Corp (JMC) , in which Ford owns a stake, said in a filing earlier this week it sold 34,008 vehicles last month, up 26per cent on year. Overall auto sales are expected to grow 11.4per cent on year in October. Changan-Ford sells SUV models including Escape, Edge and Explorer. JMC sells Ford-branded SUVs and vans as well as JMC-branded commercial vehicles. TOKYO: Japan's Nissan Motor cut its annual operating loss forecast by 28per cent on Thursday, albeit to a still record US$3.2 billion, helped by a rebound in demand from the coronavirus crisis, particularly in China. The new forecast, which brings it into line with analysts' estimates, comes as Nissan pursues a turnaround drive that is reversing the rapid expansion led by ousted Chairman Carlos Ghosn. The company is cutting production and its vehicle line-up by a fifth, and slashing costs by US$2.9 billion over three years. "We are confident we are on track" with restructuring plans, Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta told a briefing. He said global car sales volume in September was on a par with last year. TOKYO: Toyota Motor Corp more than doubled its full-year operating profit forecast on Friday, as vehicle sales rebound in China from a coronavirus pandemic squeeze earlier this year that contributed to a 24per cent slide in second-quarter earnings. Japan's top automaker said it now expects an operating profit of 1.3 trillion yen (US$12.6 billion) for the year through March, 2021, up from the 500 billion it predicted previously. Operating profit for the previous financial year was 2.47 trillion yen. That topped the 1.25 trillion yen average estimate for full-year profit from 26 analysts polled by Refinitiv. For the second quarter, from July to September, operating profit fell to 506 billion yen from 662.4 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to Reuters' calculations, as sales dipped amid the coronavirus impact globally.
