Gareth Southgate's England team will aim to make it five from five with a win against Montenegro in Podgorica on Monday evening. Most indications are that the manager will be making few changes to the team that beat Czech Republic 5:0 on Friday it looks like he’s betting on a repeat performance against Montenegro tonight. You too can, with another England 5-0 currently being priced at 33/1 at thepools.com . The last time England produced a five goal win margin (6:1 vs Panama during the 2018 World Cup) they followed it up with a 0:1 loss versus Belgium, but Montenegro are no Belgium, ranked 46th in FIFAs rankings (Czech Republic are 44th, England 5th). (CNN)Dave Kelly can still recall the time he glimpsed the biggest pack of pasta he had ever seen. Standing inside a community center in the UK city of Liverpool, Kelly just stood and stared at the packet. Curious about the line of people coming out of the center close to Anfield, home of Liverpool soccer club, Kelly pulled over and asked what was going on. He was told it was a line to use the food bank. Inside, he began to talk to those who had set up the stock room. Dave Kelly (L) and former Everton player Graham Stuart collect donations outside Goodison Park. "I'd never seen anything like it -- it was the biggest bag of pasta I had seen in my life," Kelly told CNN. Read More "To say the shelves were bare was an understatement. The only things left were the pasta and six tins of tuna the food bank was going to have to divide equally so everyone got something. "I knew then we had to do something." Kelly left a changed man and embarked on what he describes as "drastic … [Read more...] about Football and food banks: How UK soccer fans are helping tackle society’s ‘gaping wound’
“I seem to remember, in the early 2000s, Arsenal having three different strips with three different sponsors; their home kit displayed Dreamcast, their away kit, then gold, was emblazoned with JVC and their third kit, a navy blue number, showed Sega on the front,” writes Elliot Leaver. “Can someone confirm if this is true and, if so, whether other clubs have had similar scenarios?” Matt Kersley has a correction: “Elliot Leaver is remembering incorrectly; the away shirts had Sega and the blue third shirt kept Dreamcast; the JVC deal ended at the end of the 1998-99 season.” David Craig can add some more detail and perhaps offer an explanation behind the three-kit, two-sponsor scenario. “I was always told that they had that odd arrangement due to fear of causing offence in Europe as Sega is the Italian word for ‘wanker’. When they played Fiorentina, they had intended on wearing their away kit but were apparently politely asked not to, … [Read more...] about Which football clubs have had different shirt sponsors home and away?

We were somewhere near Durham, I think. I wasn’t driving or I might remember more precisely, but we were certainly somewhere in the north of England, heading south. The return legs of the journeys always felt longer, our energy sapped by the early morning start, the long day, the beers and, in this case, a humiliating 4-0 home thumping by Dundee United, a result so unexpected that the new recruit who had pulled it out of the sweepstake had tossed his slip in the bin before the game. We’d failed even to achieve the silver lining of getting on to the 606 phone-in. We just wanted to get home. And then, over the minibus radio, we heard the opening bars of Hey Jude and the mood changed. From the back of the minibus someone began to sing and within minutes we were all giving it laldy, belting out this Hearts favourite and swirling our scarves in unison. That was when I realised we had something to cherish. In the subdued gloom of that defeat in March 2007, our fledgling … [Read more...] about 5,500 miles to see one goal: the Hearts supporters’ club marooned in England
