REUTERS: Manchester United will hold talks with Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani over extending his stay at the Premier League club, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said. Cavani joined United on transfer deadline day in October on a year-long deal with an option for a further year following his exit from Paris St Germain. The 34-year-old was widely seen as a "panic signing" by British media but with seven goals and two assists in 24 games in all competitions he has impressed Solskjaer. LONDON: Edinson Cavani should be fit for Manchester United's home Premier League game against Everton on Saturday after recovering from his midweek ankle injury, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Friday (Feb 5). The Uruguayan striker, who has already scored twice against Everton in two previous meetings this season, was substituted at halftime in Tuesday's 9-0 thrashing of Southampton at Old Trafford. NEW YORK: The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) joined the growing criticism of England's FA on Tuesday (Jan 5) with a condemnation of the three-match ban given to Uruguayan Edinson Cavani for alleged racism. Cavani was last week banned for three games and fined £100,000 (US$136,180) for posting an Instagram message to a friend with what the FA decided to be a racist term after his Manchester United side's 3-2 win over Southampton on Nov 29. The FA said the post brought the game into disrepute and ordered him to undergo "face-to-face education" as part of his punishment.
