Egypt, Ethiopia at Odds as Talks Over Blue Nile Dam Resume

· September 16, 2019 ·

CAIRO - Egypt says Ethiopia has "summarily rejected" its plan for key aspects of operating a giant dam the East African nation is building on the Nile, while dismissing Ethiopia's own proposal as "unfair and inequitable." The comments in a note circulated to diplomats last week show the gap between the two countries on a project seen as an existential threat by Egypt, which gets around 90% of its fresh water from the Nile. The note distributed by the Egyptian foreign ministry, a copy of which was seen by Reuters, points to key differences over the annual flow of water that should be guaranteed to Egypt and how to manage flows during droughts. It comes as Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan met Sunday and Monday for their first talks over the hydroelectric dam in more than a year. A spokesperson at Ethiopia's foreign ministry, Nebiat Getachew, said Monday the meeting had produced no agreements or disagreements, and gave no immediate response to the Egyptian claims. Thousands May Have Died Due to Bogus Statin Risks, Says Big Pharma Funded Study

· May 3, 2017 ·

The research , conducted by a team of Imperial College London scientists on 10,000 subjects, found if individuals did not know what drugs they were given, they were no more likely than recipients of sugar pills to report symptoms such as muscle pain, sleep disturbance and cognitive impairment. When participants in the second trial phase were told the drugs were statins, rates of reported side effects shot up, with claimed muscle pain being 41 percent more common. UK National Health Service guidance recommends using cholesterol-busting drugs for around 40 percent of adults, although research suggests more than half of statin patients abandon them within a year, due to side effects. Crash-prone central Taranaki road to drop to 80kmh, should the community agree

· February 25, 2021 ·

A Taranaki council is making moves to drop the speed limit on one of its most dangerous roads – but by less than transport bosses recommend. Opunake Rd, which runs east to west along the southern side of Taranaki Maunga, has seen 57 crashes in the past five years, three of which proved fatal, with 11 classed as serious. Stratford District councillors have now said they would like to drop the speed limit from 100 kilometres per hour to 80kmh and spend more than $3 million on safety improvements over the next 10 years. However, Waka Kotahi, the NZ Transport Agency, has recommended cutting the speed limit to 60kmh or spending $5.3m on improvements over a decade, council roading asset manager Steve Bowden said.
