Eddie Jones will talk to Gareth Southgate before confirming England’s policy on WAGs and off-field conduct at next year’s Rugby World Cup. Rugby Football Union bosses were hugely impressed by Southgate’s PR triumph en route to reaching the semi-finals in Russia. Jones’ squad fell short of those heights on tour in South Africa and every effort is being made to raise standards in Japan. “We have been talking to the FA about what they did successfully at the World Cup,” Jones confirmed. “When it gets closer to the time we will have a policy on that (WAGs). We will have an idea and give it to the players to look at. We want them to accept responsibility. Then we will take it from there.” England players abused the trust placed in them by team manager Martin Johnson at the last overseas Rugby World Cup they attended in 2011. The Twickenham suits are not about to tolerate a repeat. RFU chief Steve Brown made a point of saying how … [Read more...] about Eddie Jones to tap into Gareth Southgate’s wisdom over WAGs policy at Rugby World Cup

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - The Internationals edged closer to a breakthrough win over the United States at the Presidents Cup on Saturday after continuing their dominance in the fourballs to extend their lead to a commanding 9-5 at Royal Melbourne. Ernie Els’s Internationals need just 6.5 more points to win the Cup for the first time since 1998, when it was played at the same venue. Reed’s caddie out of Presidents Cup after conflict with fan
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — The caddie for Patrick Reed will not be on the bag for the final session of the Presidents Cup after shoving a spectator who he felt was encroaching too close to Reed while cursing him. The tour announced the decision after Saturday's dual session, which ended with the International team holding a 10-8 lead. Reed said in a statement he respected the decision and that everyone was focused on winning. Kessler Karain, the brother-in-law of Reed, says he heard heckling for three days at Royal Melbourne, some had taken it too far and he'd had enough. Reed was a singular target of the American team this year because of a rules violation last week in the Bahamas. He twice removed a clump of sand from behind his ball in a waste area at the Hero World Challenge. When he was shown the incident on video, Reed accepted the two-shot penalty. Reed failed to make a birdie in fourballs Saturday morning as he and Webb Simpson lost for the third straight time. … [Read more...] about Reed’s caddie out of Presidents Cup after conflict with fan
Knight of Cups review – Malick stagnates in dull Tinseltown tale
Terrence Malick’s latest film has arrived in cinemas after its premiere at last year’s Berlin film festival, and it is a disappointment, finding pointless anguish in first-world problems. His visual language is always distinctive and even arresting in its vehemence, but is now stagnating into mannerism and self-parody. The increasingly shopworn tropes – sunsets, whispery voiceovers, young women in floaty dresses dancing puckishly ahead of men, occasionally turning round to dance backwards – are here applied to Tinseltown LA, where a screenwriter called Rick (Christian Bale) undergoes the least interesting spiritual crisis in history. The title is taken from a tarot card; he goes to a fortune teller as part of his self-pitying and self-indulgent inner journey. Rick is on the verge of career superstardom, but anguished by the collapse of his marriage to Nancy (Cate Blanchett), a quaintly imagined hospital doctor tending to ordinary and unglamorous folk. Rick … [Read more...] about Knight of Cups review – Malick stagnates in dull Tinseltown tale
Drama at the Presidents Cup as Patrick Reed’s caddie furiously shoves a fan who told the golfer ‘you f****** suck’ – as the aftermath is caught on video
Day three of the Presidents Cup was overshadowed by a dramatic altercation between an irate fan and Patrick Reed's caddie. The controversial US golfer, 29, was riding on a golf cart with his caddie of six years, and brother-in-law, Kessler Karain, when a fan shouted 'you f*****g suck'. Karain leapt off the cart as tensions boiled over, 'shoved' the fan and swore at him. Security were forced to step in during the unsportsmanlike incident, with video showing officials confronting Karain and following Reed's cart. Patrick Reed's caddie Kessler Karain (pictured) was confronted by a police officer following the incident, where he leapt off a golf cart and shoved a spectator Golf caddie Karain (pictured) was then seen gesticulating at the watching crowd, just moments after shoving a fan US PGA Tour officials are investigating the incident, but the caddie insisted he was just 'protecting his player' and the only damage was a 'spilled beer'. Footage filmed by a spectator showed … [Read more...] about Drama at the Presidents Cup as Patrick Reed’s caddie furiously shoves a fan who told the golfer ‘you f****** suck’ – as the aftermath is caught on video
