Netflix declines to flag up to viewers that TV series The Crown is fiction

· December 7, 2020 ·

US streaming platform Netflix has rejected a call from Britain's culture minister to add disclaimers at the start of episodes of its hit series The Crown to make clear that it is a work of fiction, several British media reported on Sunday (Dec 6). Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden is among several prominent figures in Britain who have argued that the scripted series, in which actors play members of the royal family, risked giving viewers a wrong and damaging impression of the royals. Supreme Court declines to proceed on contempt action against Maharashtra forest officials

· February 26, 2021 ·

The Supreme Court on Friday declined to proceed further with a contempt action against Maharashtra forest officials over the killing of Avni, a “man-eater” tigress, in 2018, after realising that the decision to kill the cat had been confirmed by the court itself. “If the decision to kill the tigress was confirmed by the Supreme Court, we are not going to reopen it,” Chief Justice Sharad A. Bobde, leading a three-Judge Bench, addressed petitioner Sangeeta Dogra. Ms. Dogra persisted that the officials took part in “celebrations” after the tigress was shot down. “The investigation [into the death of the tigress] was going on, how could they celebrate at a function?” Ms. Dogra claimed. Advocate Kartik N. Shukul, for the forest officials, however categorically denied that his clients were “directly or indirectly” a part of any celebrations. Chief Justice Bobde said the celebrations may have been by the villagers. “The officers have sent a note that they have not celebrated,” the CJI … [Read more...] about Supreme Court declines to proceed on contempt action against Maharashtra forest officials

· November 18, 2020 ·

MELBOURNE: Australia's Victoria state government is confident the Australian Open will go ahead but offered no assurances on Wednesday that players would be allowed to arrive in time for the season-opening ATP Cup and other events in January. The men's ATP Tour told players on Tuesday that the start of the 2021 season remained up in the air due to "challenges" in Australia, which is effectively closed to international arrivals due to COVID-19 protocols. Tennis Australia (TA) planned for players and their entourages to arrive in Victoria in mid-December to have time to undertake a mandatory two-week quarantine period before competing in January. But Victoria premier Daniel Andrews questioned whether players needed to arrive so early and said the government was still working with Tennis Australia on quarantine arrangements. "(Tennis Australia) are working (with) all of their partners and we're confident that we'll finish up with an Australian Open," Andrews told reporters. … [Read more...] about Government declines to guarantee Australian Open, ATP Cup schedule
