Opposition to provide evidence against government in upcoming debate

Thailand’s opposition party members are preparing to provide evidence to back the charges being made against the government in an upcoming censure debate. The government is accused of policy-oriented corruption and of playing a part in structural conflicts. The allowance of illegal immigrants into the country and illegal gambling dens is expected to be discussed as it has been attributed to the 2nd wave of Covid-19 sweeping the nation. Chief opposition whip Sutin Klungsang said the opposition parties have proof of wrongdoing that has played a part in damaging the country through mismanagement and hardship to the people. Salihara to get high-schoolers to debate literature

The Salihara art community center is slated to run a debate competition on literature for high school students. The community, which is known for its literary ecosystem, invites participants to showcase their knowledge by comparing the novel Lusi Lindri (1987) by Indonesian author Y.B. Mangunwijaya to Egyptian author Nawal El Saadawi’s memoir Woman at Point Zero (1975). According to a statement, the two books come from different genres but are similar in theme. Both talk about a woman facing a predicament due to their sociocultural circumstances. Reading the two books will give readers a wider perspective to understand problems that seem similar but are also different. In the competition, one debate team should consist of three students of the same school. Schools can send more than one team and are free to choose names for the teams. Budget debate at a glance: Transforming Singapore for a post-Covid-19 future

SINGAPORE - Parliament's annual debate on the spending plans of the Government and various ministries ended on Monday (March 8). Here are 11 key themes which emerged. 1. Cushioning petrol duty hikes As part of measures to shift towards a greener and sustainable Singapore for all generations, petrol duty rates will be raised by 15 cents per litre for premium petrol and 10 cents per litre for intermediate petrol. The Government will set aside $113 million to provide rebates for petrol and petrol-hybrid vehicles, to ease the transition following the hike. There will be a 15 per cent road tax rebate for owners of private cars for one year, and a 60 per cent rebate for those owning motorcycles. Owners of commercial vehicles will get a 100 per cent tax rebate for a year. Additional petrol duty rebates for motorcycles, taxis and private-hire cars will be introduced by the middle of this year, with more details to be released next month. Some SC justices again on quarantine, terror law debates moved next week

MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court has rescheduled again its oral argument on the petitions against the Anti-Terrorism Act set on Tuesday, March 9, as some of the justices are currently on self-quarantine. In the notice issued by en banc Clerk of Court, Atty. Edgar Aricheta, the 5th day of the oral argument is set on March 16. “Considering that some of the Justices are on self-quarantine as a health precaution against Covid-19, you are hereby informed per instruction of the Honorable Supreme Court, of the suspension of the oral arguments scheduled on March 9, 2021,” the Clerk of Court stated.
